Suffer Not the Xenos to Live

I searched the forum for some topics on 40K, and found that they are dead and few, which saddens me. Anyone here play Warhammer 40k? I played a lot before, but decided to stop playing for about a year because of finances, but my friend just picked it up and I've got excess cash, so I'm back on board, and more enthusiastic then ever. Maybe just not enough people speaking up about it? Surely it's more popular then this.

Anyone?

I played it for about 14 years, and I'm now 15. So I'm not sure what that says about me . I stopped after my local shop closed down, which was like a second home to me, and my cashflow didn't help either. I'm looking to get back into it, but I'm not sure.

I collect Space marines and Tyranids. I have been going since I was six and now I am a brilliant painter. (Even if I say so myself) Maybe I will take a pic of my small army of Space marines.

Aw, so it looks like the people that did play have stopped now : /

I found one thing that really got me back into it was the fluff. I really wasn't all that well read into 40K lore, I pretty much play to win, but the background information on the game is just amazing, it really adds a lot of depth and fun to the game, at least for me. Also, if you play campaigns, it spices it up rather then just having a bland battle progression with no story, at least for me.

I'll take a picture of some of my newly painted guys, got a box of Kasrkin the other day and painted a few up, and it would be great to hear from a few more players, I know you're in here damn you!

I kinda got bored of 40K a little into 2nd Ed (Imperial Guard, Slaanesh and Sisters of Battle). Resurrected with the release of 3rd Ed when I started up a Dark Eldar army (still undefeated) and a Nid army (lost more than they won ). Kind of lost interest when they moved the DE to mail order only. Couldn't be arsed with the mail order, plus I moved up to Edinburgh where I don't have a game room, and the local GW lacks a battle bunker.
I was always into Warhammer FB more though, original Undead (later converted to Vampire Counts) and Skaven. Rare I actually get to play at all these days, beyond Dawn of War and Mark of Chaos anyway

Always been more into the fluff side of things than the competitive thing though, hence why my Nids tended to lose (my refusal to field ranged Carnifexes I reckon). Not that it stopped my Dark Eldar - never seen them get beat, despite retaining pretty much the same army list since their release.

Space marine fanatic is me, however I'd risk saying Im more into the fluff than the game. :p. I havent done any real hobbycraft or gaming in far too long. I really have no free time now between freinds and school. and the bit that is left ieither to insubstantial to be sued for anything more than random fps gaming or, devoted to modding.

When I do play, I always seem to lose to bastard Tau railguns. I should turn my dudes back into blood angels, death company are ownage incarnate. Lets see them shoot me after their heads have been pulled off.

Then again, I probably wont because I can't be bothered.

I have a guard army but sort of lost all enthusiasm, partly because I'm a ****ty painter, and partly because I've never actually won a game.

Hehehe. "Nathan, DO SOMETHING!".

What the Hell was I supposed to do against them tau? If you weren't playing with the Tyranids I would have lost my entire army.

Aw man you're playing guardsmen and you can't rape the Tau? Stormtrooper deep strikes and mounted infantry, support with Sentinels. Lots of sentinels

But I'll admit, the Tau is a really versatile army and you can employ just about any tactic with the versatility of their armies.

Nah, against Tau you want either Rough Riders (to wipe the buggers out in assault) or guess range artillery (just sit in your deployment zone and pound them to dust).

I always love Tau when I took my DE. That 30' assault range could really take it's toll.

I'm more of a collector than a player.

I've got a few figures.

Mostly Tau, unpainted. No hobby store near my place, so I have to wait til my sisters go back to the states. I could get paints from there.

I remember those things.

My dad bought a little pack of the figurines once.

After two false starts and a hideously painted failure, I tossed the little buggers.

I'm lacking funds so all I had was

A command squad
Junior command squad
2 Guardsmen platoons
1 Stormtrooper squad
Sentinel with Lasgun
Leman Russ
Heavy bolter turret, las gun base, mortar launcher

I never bought any 40k, but I have a mixed collection with a few empire & orcs (from the 4th edition boxset), 1 unit each of dark and high elven spearmen, a number of 3rd and 4th edition brettonians, a unit of skaven and possibly a few other models.

I lost interest a few years ago though, I never really got into painting, I loved putting together the plastic models though. I was disapointed by rising prices and shrinking unit sizes. Also I probably should have bought paint from a local hobby store rather than GW, it would probably have been cheaper.

I had a subscription for White Dwarf too, great magazine, GW has some great writers.

Still doesn't explain why not a single tau died in that game.

LIES!

I killed a fire warrior with Betty (The Sentinel)
What were your marines doing per chance?
