Subversion is a software version control system, although the mod is in mostly binary format and is not really software this system can be used to keep an up to date version of the mod and keep it in sync with the repository.
The term 'checkout' is used to describe the action of downloading any changes, the first checkout will be large, that's 1.6gb of stuff, the next checkouts will be small and will only include changes I've made.
So that said, if you want to see the development version of the mod you need a subversion client. An excellent choice is Tortoise SVN. This is the SVN client this tutorial will cover.
Obtain a copy of Tortoise from http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads and install it. You may be asked to reboot, so reboot when prompted.
First checkout - change your current folder to x:\....\warband\modules, right click on an empty space there somewhere where folders are, you will have an option to SVN Checkout, click that.
The URL of the repository is http://ad1257svn.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/
The output directory is where your warband is installed, folder Modules, or you can just use .
Click OK and off it goes, it will take a long time for the first checkout, it contains all the textures and music.
To keep the development tree in sync with the repository, go to where you 'checked out' the mod, right click the folder where it's installed and right click and do SVN update. This will apply any updates.
That's it... I'll do some screenshots of the process later maybe. Oh yes and the upload on my side is not finished yet as of right now, probably 2 more hours.
This is mainly so I can get feedback from kuaik and Sahran on where I messed up the equipment for the new troop trees. Hopefully kuauik will look at this and make suggestions as to what gear should be where
I suggest trying this, the AI is much better, there are some unfinished things though... Companion dialogues for one, need help with those. What else... The new troop trees may be equipped poorly and may not be well balanced at all... Other than that it's got most of the stuff I talked about.
Plan for 1.0
1) troop trees have been redone
* equipment lists must be finalized
* any textures for equipment that doesn't exist have to be done
*the 'eastern' troop tree needs work, Sahran gave up on it, anyone?
* when all that is complete it all has to be balanced properly
scripting stuff that's broken or not working well:
* fix autoresolve, it favours certain combinations where it really should not
* fix autoloot
*fix minimap disappearing when you press 'L'
*base party wages on the true strength of the party
* fix mercenaries
*bandits spawning in the walls, starter quest
scenes
* Arwa scene, defenders spawn behind the wooden palisade the attackers can't attack them
2) new recruitment system
* no work done on this yet, some preliminary discussions but postponed until step 1 finished
3) AD 1257 v1.0 is out
