Option A, we can't let the "Ivans" get Hans Wind.

Talking to Eila and Ulpu would be interesting, but at the same time I would much rather like to know what is going on and again leaving someone to go alone seems a bit unsafe.

Regarding C whilst on the one hand it sounds like a good idea to take to the air, it would make more sense to get some information on the situation before we try to fly. (I mean if it is a Russian air raid then it might be decidedly unsafe to try and take-off).

"Hanna, I'll come with you", you quickly say. She looks at you, frowning but doesn't say anything, so you follow her to the HQ building.

Inside is not like the chaos you expected. The squadron commander is there, with all the flight commanders and some of the senior pilots, the sergeant major in charge of the ground crew and the sergeant 1st class in charge of the AAA-gunners. Nearly everyone is smoking. Both of the senior NCO's wave and smile at you when they spot you - and a hazy memory of a box of chocolates being offered from gnarly hands surfaces. They are both older men in their fifties and treated you four witches more like their daughters than with the proper military decorum.

"Now shut your traps and listen up, I won't repeat myself", Major Enhrooth orders.

"The higher-ups are as mystified as we are. There hasn't been any intelligence that the Russkies would be planning an attack. Neither have the Krauts informed us of any special offensives they were planning. So I don't know whose fault it is that Leningrad is apparently burning. All the listening posts have been going crazy but, so far, there's no Soviet artillery barrage or anything. So we wait and see. I want number one flight to be at cockpit alarm and number three flight to be at base alarm, switching around every hour. Number two and four will get some sleep and get ready for a proper recon flight at first light. This includes witches", he finishes. Everyone nods and starts to trickle out.

"What does that mean", you whisper to Hanna, who nods and exchanges few greetings with other pilots.

"Cockpit alarm means the boys get to sit in their planes and witches wait at the Striker platforms, legs inside so if necessary, we can get forces up quickly. Base alarm means you have be ready to take-off in short notice, so you must wear flight suit, can't leave base nor go to the sauna", she explains.

"But you are in number two flight, so go grab some shut eye. I'll have to get to the hangar", Hanna tells you.

Just then, a massive thunderous noise deafens you - you look up and see a wide gray-red smoke trail crossing the sky, heading from west to east with a shining head.

A) Yeah, few more hours of sleep would do me good
B) Are you kidding me? The sky is falling, how can anyone sleep!

A, if ****'s going down, it's important to be well rested. Our superior officer seems to understand the circumstances and told us to sleep, let's be a soldier rather than rambo.

Comet Sighted!

A. Stop looking at the sky
B. Ignore the peasant rabble
C It´s an omen
D. The end is nigh

Uhm... A! Stop looking at the sky, get some sleep.

Gah, struggling with inspiration and wording - haven't abandoned this (yet). I know where it's going, it's just filling in the details along the way properly that's a bit of an issue for the moment. Patience, please.

No worries!

Forgot to vote as well, so I am going with A.

It fits the standard Fighter Pilot mentality, go sleep when you can if its not your turn to fly.

Just finished reading up from the beginning. I have to admit..... I didn't see the "plot twist" coming on Page 6 .

I almost stopped reading there, but I'm glad I didn't. It's quite fun the way you've written it out.

Anyway I pick (A) You'll more than likely be woken up in short order anyway, and may as well enjoy  the nap.

Putting your best poker face on, you turn back to Hanna:

"Well, seeing omens of the world coming to an end always make me sleepy, so I'll see you in few hours"

Hanna looks at you strangely for a moment before bursting into laughter.

Grinning to yourself, you return to your room. Deciding that preparedness is godliness, you only take off your boots before crawling on your cot.

You awake with a jolt when someone bangs on your window. Surprisingly enough, you must have actually fallen asleep. Quickly you put on your boots and kit before pushing the window slightly open. A young man is there, holding a steaming mug:

"Morning miss! Your patrol starts in half'n'hour and the Captain sent me to get you! Here's some coffee!" He looks at you with big, round eyes. You are reminded of the dog you had when you were younger.

As you get outside, he hands you the mug and you take a sip. It's hot and bitter and only vaguely tastes like coffee. Looks like rationing is getting worse. But, at least it IS hot, since the "morning" is bitterly cold. It's not pitch-black, only nearly so. The eastern sky is lightening, so sun will probably be up soonish, you guess.

In the hangar, you find two groups of men. Spotting some faces that you vaguely recollect as belonging to Flight Two, you walk over, slowly sipping your coffee.

"Ah, good morning Kyllikki, I was just about to go over the situation", a tall Captain says as he spots you. Captain Paavo Berg, you remember. He bought you flowers on your second day, after you had been attached to his Flight. You shake your head.

"So, the night went quietly. Headquarters has only reported that there is heavy fighting near Leningrad but the situation is mostly unknown. Krauts haven't directly told us anything and Russkies have been quiet as well. But listening posts have heard explosions and artillery fire all night long. Something big is happening there. Thus, our mission is to perform a combined recon and cover patrol over the Gulf. If any Red planes are sighted, you can engage. We'll fly towards Krondstadt to make Russkies react. Do not fly over Estonia, as we want to avoid any issues with the Kraut fliers in Tallinn. Should be routine but keep your eyes open!"

Since no-one has any questions, Berg calls the meeting off. The men start slinking towards their planes, to perform walk-about checks.

A) Go to your ground crew and get ready.
B) Have a quiet word with Captain Berg first - would be nice to know if you had been romantically involved at some point.

Yay! That was my first goal - to make it come out of the blue.

Thanks! Nice to have a new voter join us!

We still love you, Jhess?
Why the question mark? Of course you do!

B - thanks for the flowers, and breathe deeply.  Weren't they on behalf of the whole flight though?  nevermind.... B for sure.

Hmm....B.  Can't play it too straight. Besides we might gain insight into our Finnish heroine pre-amnesia  that's not been given/left out by the  other witches. Might even find the reason for the "accidental" kick in the head.

A, if she hasn't been romantically involved, itll be awkward to ask and if you were, that would spoil the pleasure of an imaginary, hot virgin witch.
If we don't ask though we can't know. It might lead to some interesting dialog choices no matter which way it swings. Also she's calm, collected, rational, 20 and Finnish. The chances of virginity are low. The Finnish Capt. has a better chance of being a virgin

I suppose this was inevitable given the popularity of SWQ on /tg/. I also note with amusement that Kylikki is similar to the name given to the spitz we adopted in 1988.

A. If we were romantically involved, surely the person we were involved with would have spoken with us or tried to find out about us.
