Ok, so I got 30 strength a Horse and a Nodachi, I followed GL Takeda around wining tons of battles for him, I plan to gain favor and then join a rival clan, gain honor by capturing his generals and letting them go, and eventually join Takeda and usurp the GL title... Anyone know the best way to go about this?

On with the oddities,

The only message about honor I say was 'you gained honor' when I returned to my lord after a defeat. And apparently after a while I look at my honor rating and it's -10... Appalled because I have only done uber honorable things...

Secondly, man I got raped from Hamamatsu to Kiyosu by 4-5 bands of 30 monks each, I thought I could placate them by paying but one after the other kept coming up, annoyed I took on 100 but their teppos and lack of formation, did me in. That was weird, but no problem.

Thirly, I went around half of Japan looking for companions only to find the same ones time after time, what the heck, it's like the ones I don't want are following me around.

Last but not least, I went on leave from GL Takeda only to come back and the option that comes up is to join as a Ji-samurai. What the heck! I'm a Hamamoto!

Needless to say I quit the play through, the trouble needed to fix everything would take longer than a restart, regardless of renown.

Don't bother wining battles. Wait for the AI to do it for you and put the generals into cities than liberate them.

As far as I know that's not a bug, its a feature. There are certain places on the map where the rowing bands of bandits are very tough. And that's a good thing because it lets you use bandits for leveling even into the mid game as opposed to regular M&B where it's useless past the first few levels. Just go around those areas until you are a high enough level like you would in any other game.

The game just has many companions and you are suffering from a bad case of RNG hate. It's not a bug with the mod but the M&B engine.

Last but not least, I went on leave from GL Takeda only to come back and the option that comes up is to join as a Ji-samurai. What the heck! I'm a Hamamoto!
As far as I am aware he is looking into the freelancer code for the next patch which by the way will be save game compatible. Until than do report these things in the bug report thread where he is far more likely to see them.

There isn't any really any reliable *and* fast method to gain reputation with a lord, but here are some ideas:

-Gain a very high positive or negative honour value. This gives a relation point per every 3 points of positive/negative honour if the lord values honour/dishonour; this tends to be based on their personality type. If your honour is 30, you'll have a basse 10 relation with any lords that value honourable behaviour.

-Do quests for the lord. Delivering messages, escorting daughters, collecting taxes, etc. are all easy. Capturing spies or meeting with spies are rarer, but give big dividends. Lending a companion can hurt, but only takes a week and is a decent boost.

-Level up or recruit a stockpile of Officers and/or Hatamoto Guards (the best way is to jump into lord vs lord battles and recruit from liberated prisoners, or take Officers/Hatamotos prisoner and recruit them during camp). When a Lord gives you a "train troops" quest, you can hand over the troops right away - they don't need to be the exact same troops he gave you.

-Likewise, you may want to maintain a stockpile of certain prisoner types for a fast hand-in for a "Deliver prisoners" quest.

-One very fast way to gain relation (and honour) is by freeing captured lords that are imprisoned in cities. You get +7 relation with the freed lord, and +1 with a bunch of other lords from his faction. If possible, try to talk to the imprisoned lord's brother or wife if he has one so you can get a quest to free him. Completing this quest will give an additional +7 relation with the brother. This is an identical gain to freeing lords after battle.

-One tidbit - if you rescue a lord from imprisonment that belongs to a faction you are currently at war from, you can immediately take them captive after springing them out of jail. This can be very handy for completing lord quests that require you to take another lord prisoner, since this is a guaranteed way to take a lord captive.

-If you get to the point where you own a major city, you will have the option of employing an Administrator (from the Diplomacy submod). You can have your Administrator send a gift of trade goods to a lord - either sake, fish sauce, or soy sauce. This costs the trade goods, plus an additional 50 mon, and spawns a Caravan on the world map that will travel to the lord and raise relation by 1-3 points. This is by far the most reliable method in the late-game, assuming your caravans don't get intercepted on the way.

the closest thing to usurpation that i know of is to swear vassalage, capture as many settlements as you like (i suggest at least three towns for the money) and ask to be released from your oath to him, while telling him to f#@k off when he says you'll have to fork over your land. i suggest you capture settlements so they'll all neighbor one another. if not, you can trade with other vassals in your clan for optimal strategic positioning. have some companions with you for easy access vassals for your newly found domain. be warned, this may be taken a declaration of war against other surrounding GLs but is most certainly going to be by the one you betrayed.

PS don't think just because you're the one that captured a settlement, you're the one your GL will give it to. depending on their personality and their relationship with you, that may be the case but it's not guaranteed and even then, it's a group decision. you should ask each of your allies who they should think the newly acquired settlement should go to and try to convince it should go to you if they don't already think so.
