"Storing" troops?

Users who are viewing this thread

Right, now I've turned down an offer to rule 3 castles, 4 small villages and even 1 real city. The reason, I don't have any archers. I don't want archers, cause I don't want to be slow, and I don't want Khergits.

So, are there any way to store troops? Like, first get some vaegir recruits, then train them to rather good missile troops, and then store them somewhere? And then when I get a new offer, I can go and pick them up and put them into my castle?

I assume the answer is no?

No, unless it's another castle/town.

But that kinda defeats the purpose of the question, doesn't it?

If it has to be MY city or castle, then yeah, it don't solve my problem. But can I store them in another city or castle?

Again, I assume the answer to be no

Without your own castle you can't store your own troops, unfortunately. My only advice is to try pumping party morale and the tracking skill up so you can move faster arround the map and have range units.

Er...

You don't need archers. You could garrison the castle with nothing but peasants and horseman if you felt like it. The enemy won't be in a position to counterattack your castle straight away, so having a strong garrison as soon as it's captured isn't necessary.

Next time you get an offer, just take it. Throw some untrained peasants in there so it'll have a garrison and then train up some higher level troops to leave there if you feel the need. Remember you'll have the chance to rush home and defend your castle if it's attacked as well.

You might want to wait till the next city is taken though, the tax you get from those is very substantial (unlike a castle which is practically none) and having merchants and a tavern in your castle aren't bad perks either.

Note:
Just for the record, I've only had my castle attacked once straight after it was captured, in all the years I've been playing this game, and the garrison of a few high tier footmen was more than enough to hold it.

The problem is that my king like to take me and the other lords out on a long, long trip when he want to take something, and the real city I was talking about was the one farthest away from our own land and on the border between to kingdoms that both were enemies to us. So, it would be impossible for me to keep it, I have like -80 relationship with those guys, so they'd be pretty hard on me : P

Just my little fief has been attacked multiple times, so I have enough by defending that.

But, perhaps I'll try to take a castle myself, that are close to my fief? Then I can get rather good troops fresh from my fief and put them in the castle : )

There really should be a way to build a separate army without a castle or town, but I realize that it would screw up the game a bit.

Thanks for the help anyways : )

EDIT: Wohoo! Got myself a castle right next to my fief now! Lets just hope I'll get to keep it : )

Not a bad idea. Means you have to spend less time running around after all. Keep in mind that if you take a castle or city the villages tied to it will become friendly, so you won't have to worry about trudging too far to get recruits, even if it's a bit far from your lands.

Yes, well I have that first village I got, and I get like 20 footmen from it now, so after a few battles with sea raiders or similar I get them upgraded to infantry or archers (or just skirmishers) and can garrison them. Spent like 10 game days to form a garrison of 100 tier 3-5 guys. Cost about 500 a week and that's about half of what I get in taxes. And my party is paid for by loot, so now its heaven : ) Already defended my castle a few times.

And oh, I'm Marshall of the Vaegirs now!! Its so super awesome!! Can order the other Lords around, and command them all in combat! I even command the King when I fight with him in battle : ) Oh how I love the game now!!

I was made Marshall after around 200 days, a bit before that, like 185 maybe. Is that good or bad? Its my first game, and I play on easy (26% or something) so its rather easy, so take that into account.

(Yes, I know I'm a wuss to play on 26%, but hey, I like to win )
