Still learning how to play... After all these years.

Every so often I come across something in this game that I never knew before...

You know little things. Like pressing space while on the campaign map will make time pass, or make me stop moving if I am.

Or if my shot is obstructed by something that isn't in the crosshairs (happens way too much on defense) hitting R to go into first person and trying the same shot somehow works.

Or as I learned today... I will admit it I was going to cheat. I was the last one standing in a siege and I just could not for the life of me find the last defender so I was going to ctrl +F4 to knock him out. I fatfingered it and hit F5 instead and found myself plinking arrows automatically. When switching to a shield/sword I rose my shield and stood at guard. And as I found out in my next battle even automatically swing the sword when I get within range! When I think of all the mouse clicks I could have saved on those late game sieges and battles that go on forever....

That last one is a cheat that allows the AI to take over for your character.  Not necessarily recommended due to them acting like the other AI (and possibly shooting one of your own guys in the back for it).

Had no idea it was considered a cheat. That could be why I never stumbled on it before, or it could just be that without cheats on I would have no reason to hit ctrl and F5 barring something weird like me accidentally holding down ctrl while giving deployment orders or something.

As to the shooting in the back bit I don't see that happening any more than it does manually. I mean I can still aim and move the reticle around to change my aim it just sort of auto fires and locks my feet in place (with bow).

Another thing I noticed with it is if I use it while riding a tower I stay right where I was.... despite the tower moving on

It's not something I fiddled with since I never liked the idea of letting the AI take control of my character since I have specific (reality: random) movement patterns and strategic locations (reality: I have to figure this out on the fly) that would mess with how I fight.  I also don't know how much control is given since I never really looked into it myself so I can't really say much on it.

The tower hover thing has been there from the start IIRC.  Has to do with an AI thing since, every once in a while, I'll find a guy hovering above the ground all because he was standing on the tower.  Not sure what causes it, but it's something in the programming that's not carrying the npc with the tower.  I wouldn't be surprised if what happened to you there is this exact scenario.

(btw, I never bothered to care about the achievements since I"m kind of old school like that   ........and the cheats are active on the very rare chance I need to find a specific bandit party that I can't find at all on the map or in my current location because they're all the way in Sarranid Territory instead of Nord Territory).
