Stereo Sound Reversal ..... Or something

Hiya,
I love this game, but I wish the stereo sound would work properly. I use headphones, and it seems like when a battle is off in the distance to the LEFT, it actually ends up over on the RIGHT, and vice versa.

Closer up, it almost seems like this isn't as much of a problem, or atleast it's most noticable in the distance.

It's not a question of just reversing my headphones, because I threw 'em on backwards to test it, and then things just seemed kinda off.

Anyone had this issue? Got a quickfix?

It's certainly not ruining the game. I am hooked.

There is a setting in the configs that you can get to when you start the game about sound. I don't think the comments specifically mention what you are experiencing, but changing would be worth a try.

well i gave it a shot, but there's nothing there that seems to address this problem.

Is this something everyone experiences? a shortcoming of the game? or am I alone on this?

also when watching my little horse guy on the main map, the sound of his hooves doesn't quiet match up with what I'm seeing.

Everyone else is alright? S'just me?

I have also noticed a discrepency between where sounds appear to be coming from and where they actually are in the game. I didn't post because I also thought it was only me

I use a Medusa 5.1 Surround headset and the left/right-ness of sounds can be very disorienting when combined with front/back issues also. I don't seem to hear sounds to my left as clearly as ones to my right, and often the distance they are away is wrong. The only example I can vividly remember is when I was standing on the top of a hill while fighting steppe bandits and I heard some horses running, fairly loudly so they seemed close, off to my right. I turned quickly expecting to have to dodge a charging bandit but instead the horses were just to the right of where I was originally, at the foot of the hill.

I've had no problems with my sound in other games such as Quake 4/ Far Cry/ HalfLife2/ Need For Speed Most Wanted. For reference I have a Creative Audigy 2 soundcard (the original, not the ZS).

I think this bug may be hard to track down as the direction and intensity of sounds is quite a subjective thing to judge outside of a lab.

Me too. Only on my system the left/right positioning is fine. Its the front/rear positioning that is off on mine. I can hear battle raging just over the next hill when in fact it is behind me! Creative Audigy2 here (get the same problem both on 5.1 speakers and on headphones).

Well I dont have any problems.. :???: My stereo sound system works pretty good! But If you cant live without the stereo, then reverse the headphones (right on the left ear and left on the right ear)
Cheers!

Well, thx for that.

Anyway, so I was about to enter a bug about this but searched first, and the original poster is describing what I get. To hear the effect, try out both first and third person, and simply rotate the camera around yourself and listen to the sound of the horse's hooves. At first it sounds right probably, but then you start to notice, left is right or right is left and/or for some reason it's muffled from one side and not from the other, and then it never rights itself. In battle, it can be very disorienting, because you SWEAR someone is bearing down on you fast from behind-left, but um... it's your own horse.

I'm using SBLive, for the record. M&B version 0.731.

I've noticed the same issue with sound when i'm playing with headphones on. I wouldn't quite say the stereo channels are reversed, but I do find it totally disorienting when you try to figure out which direction a sound is coming from. It's almost as if the sound is mapped off-center in the stereo field, if you know what i mean.
