What about Fallschirmjäger?

Not to mention that German starting squads are elite combat engineers while Russian ones are barely adequate builders and US ones are **** (but charming).
Of which I am also not a fan btw.

As opposed to say CoH2 or Starcraft where meta units do not exist at all.
I own neither, I will play neither.
Especially in regards to Starcraft and at the danger of annoying TDM again by not liking something because of the genre, the more "competitive" a game is the less likely I'm going to be to try or like it. See all DotA/LoL/HoN/whatever, Overwatch or any other 1st person DotA-like, and all the ****e that spawned from that thought of gameplay in general. It's simply not my idea of fun in a game. If the game is built around such a mechanic it stands to argue I'm not going to enjoy it. Err... not that DotA-likes tend to have decks as such, but having a deck system usually entails a high degree of "competetive" whatever. Please excuse the weird mental derail there.
So yeah, to each his own and all that.

Or a different example of what I mean, and again not related to decks but more to "competitive" and "meta", I love love loooove CK2. And then I played it with a certain member of this forum once and the way he plays it is utterly disgusting to me. Utter min-max, blitzing towards victory.
It's highly unlikely I shall ever do so again.

Just saying, all it took is one feature to make you decide not to want to play the game anymore.
Well... yeah. Because it reminded me who the devs were and how central it's likely going to be.

Fallschirms are pure trash, as are Übers (because some great mind had that great idea of making 4 men squad an Axis flavour). What is actually passable for strong late-game infantry are vetted Panzerfusiliers (and, unironically, vet3 MG'ed Prosttruppen). OKW (not Germans) start with very good starting infantry, yes, but Sturms are not that good; especially later on. Their initial shock value comes from the Allies having unvetted unupgraded units.

Yeah about that.

Meta units do definitely exist in Starcraft. It's dependant on map and matchup but for example on some maps with a short and easy rush you will just build hellions against zerg. Every time.

One feature that pretty much says it's going to be more Wargame than RUSE. Which is very sad, as there are tons of Wargames but only 1 RUSE which has been taken out of the steam store :/

Not really, RUSE was a bit more Command and Conquer with a unique sighting system and global abilities, with the unit-to-unit combat of Wargame (i.e., clunky as ****). There really hasn't been anything since that's tried the concept.

Yeah, I can't understand why they pulled it off the store. Just WTF, do they want that game to just die?

Maybe they're pulling a ruse of their own. :^) 10 years after it's been gone they're going to release it again, nothing changed, except they've renamed it to "RUSE 2: The Rusening".

BenKenobi 说:
Btw, the same deck thing is in every Total War game.
Never really thought of it that way. Odd, since you're pretty right.

Saw the stream earlier today. Looks nothing like RUSE for anyone wanting that. Just looks like Wargame but at a company level instead of battalion/brigade. Air-dropped bombs look dumb as ****.

EDIT: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/130436498

It looks exactly like Wargame, maybe a bit more "intimate" and close range, but still, pretty much Wargame in Normandy.

nice video

Guards armoured division confirmed. Awesome but i thought they would add either the 11th armoured or the 7th desert rats.

Yeah, I don't know, might have missed the major changes, but it really seems pretty much like a mod of Wargame.

Getting rid of ATGMs will be a major plus though, since after EE, where they were relatively inaccurate, they became too effective on infantry platforms, who could fire completely unseen from garrisons or forests. And infantry remains one of the worst-modeled unit types in the game. They've also finally implemented recon aircraft so that's also a major plus from Wargame. I'll be interested to see how this one pans out, but I have fairly low hopes given that Eugen has pretty much proven themselves incompetent or unwilling when it comes to fixing major issues in their engine.

Infantry seems far more important in this one, from what I've seen at least.
