Steam not accepting my 4x4 taleworlds CD key...

I know this usually happened the other way around - Steam version could not be activated outside of Steam on a taleworlds version of the game. But I have an opposite problem: Steam doesn't accept my 4x4 CD key I bought on taleworlds a while ago.
The problem is: I only have half a day to fix this issue, need time to complete the achievement for a ticket afterwards

PS: I searched this forum and steam but didn't have any luck finding any info on converting a 4x4 cd key into 5x5 cd key, which would be acceptable for Steam version.

You can't activate the taleworlds-version on steam (you could just add it as non-steam-game).

I can activate my Steam cd-key on taleworlds version but can't activate taleworlds version on Steam? How so?
Is there a way to permanently convert a Taleworlds CD key into Steam CD key?

Because taleworlds only provides a serial-key and no steam-activation-key, while steam provides both.

Thanks for info, hopefully someone can still help me convert my CD key into a steam-activation-key so I don't have to buy the game twice (which I simply won't).

No. I believe that's answered somewhere in the thread, too.
You can, in Steam, add this as a non-Steam game and then have access to the chat interface, etc, but there's no way to get hooked into the Steam Achievements without purchasing it through Steam.

Good lesson. Won't buy taleworlds game from taleworlds again

I'm in the same position myself, and right now wondering if I have any friends (who don't care one wit about Steam achivements) that would gift me a Steam Version of Warband for the non-Steam one...

If you don't care about Steam achievements, then just go into Steam and add Warband as a non-Steam game and you should have access to the chat interface, etc without a problem. See the quoted post right above you, in fact:
