Bit of a rant but i noticed that it is taking around 4 days to download IL-2 1946 via steam. A download of 5 gigs.

Using impulse now for example I can download 5 gigs in 1 - 1 and a half days. Why the hell is steam so slow? I am extremely reluctant to purchase anything off steam again at these speeds. I may as well as make a long drive to go buy the physical product.

Make sure you have the Steam server set to the one closest to you. It's in the settings somewhere. Besides that, I'm not sure what to say; I've never had a problem with Steam's download speeds.

Other things though...

Thats like 100KBPS isn't it? Sounds perfectly decent to me...

Currently at 9 kb/sec

Cheers just checked it. It was downloading from Taiwan. Dunno if changing it to Philippines will help.

Oh, ****, I'll go sit in my corner with my calculator and try to figure that math nonsense out.

I estimated the number of days. So far its been 2-3 days and its at 53%

60 secs x 60 mins x 24 hours = 86400 seconds in a day.
86400 x 9k= 777600k
Or around 780mbs a day if he doesn't turn it off.

That's pretty spot on. First day I only got around 700-800 megs.

Servers are being hammered due to the new L4D content. As happens any time something popular is released. Seriously, never a more apt name has been chosen than Steam; Babbage's engines ran faster for ****s sake.

Yeah I tried switching to the Philippines and the bit rate is less stable. I am hoping it will be better tonight if not I will switch back to Taiwan servers.

At this rate I will have to wait 5 days for a download to complete. Impulse driven is so much ****ing faster. Its just a pity they don't have the majority of the latest games

It'll probably speed back up once everyone has the update.

I hope so. I have to pay 10 bucks a week for the net connection lol. Not that I wouldn't pay anyway.

I Seriously hope the download is sound. I don't want a corrupted file making me download again. Arrg that would be a pain heh.

Cheers.

This must have to do with timezone and location, because i download stuff at 1MB/s through Steam, it's faster than most torrents.

Well I reconnected my net connection and all of a sudden its gone up to a delightful over 256 kbps. Not sure why it was so slow. Maybe it only just reconnected to a local server.

You have to restart it to change servers but I suggest you use some far off place few people live at.

Like Siberia.
Helped me a bit during the whole Alien Swarm craze.

Lol Siberia is actually listed? I can just picture two Russians at a server shed in the snow with a diesel heater...
