Wood, we're not talking about stealth missions and crap like that. We're talking about being able to conceal your self (not make your self invisible ) if you maintained a proper distance form the enemy, you would not be seen, you could then sneak up on them and stab them from behind for lethal damage. If they come too close to you, you lose concealment and are visible again.

NOT sneaking around a castle to go steal the gold.

Those are gay

What would you steal????

youd have to add a ton of code to the game to be able to pick objects up and have objects laying around blah blah blah

I want to be able to hide line of site is a good way of putting it because it would be really simple to add ambushes flanks....possibley formations

We would jsut need to have a new variety of orders

I think stealth is more related to escaping unwanted attention, rather than stealing. This thread is about being a small party and not getting noticed:

NOOOOOOOO!!!
Seriously, this is a COMBAT game, for FIGHTING. Stealth CANNOT be added as an afterthought, It just won't work. The amount of action games that have been tainted or ruined by a sealth level is too many to count.
Look at the stealth games Thief and Splinter Cell, they were disigned for stealth from the very beginning. Light, shadow, sound, inteligence, tension, expert map design. These are the key components for even a basic stealth aspect. If stealth is crowbarred into the game now, it will be CRAP, and the rest of the game will be dragged down because of it.

Dare me say it, but first person shooter games like Counter-Strike do incorporate a minor stealth aspect quite well with only a few aspects: the ability to crouch and walk, and a few "silenced" weapons (which is almost every common medieval weapon imagined- bows, swords, axes). There are even some lighting aspects (hiding in dark corners)/ camouflage (player models blending in with background/ foreground textures or models) features.

However, I do agree that stealth, if implemented, should be done well  and like the poster above me said: stealth is mostly about not being noticed in combat situations.

In the end it mostly comes down to improving AI and how they handle situations with their line of sight.

yea exactly i dont want anything drastically changed... but as someone else said its like your enemies have spidey sense to know exactly where you are...

Instag said waht people are whereing blend into the back ground...

if your wearing glittiring sparkling armour, it would be seen better than someone wearing furs, ... that would be a bit over the extreme... but anyways

Im not sure how hard this would be to code into the game (im not a modder, otherwise id be working on it right now) But i really think you should be able to creep up on the enemy maybe even some new battle fields ...heavy woods, open fields, mountan, ext... which would help or diminish the "stealth" aspect

I suggested more of a strategic stealth before.

Each type of unit would be rated for its stealthiness and the player heroes would have a stealth skill. This would affect your visibility on the world map to some degree with a more pronounced effect at night and with smaller number of troops.

Would affect your ability to sneak past other armies undetected and the ability to successfully ambush another army. Maybe if you stood still on the world map and activated an ambush trigger any unit coming within x pixels would trip your ambush. You then setup on the battlemap surrounding them at a range of your choosing (possibly modifed by skill and terrain). Your ambush/stealth skill success might be modified by the enemy commanders spotting or tactics.

This could work both ways with the enemy armies with a stealth orientation occassionaly stopping on the map and going into ambush mode. Bandits of various types might do this.

that be an easy/cool way of doing it "The line of site" idea would need to be done first.Orders would still need a bit of work but it would be set up a lot easier if it was done this way.... and you cant jsut ambush anyone.

i reallly like it And i hope these ideas are getting towards developers.....

Ithink why there is so many No votes is because they thought it would be sneaking around towns and such but through discussion i think its been made into an easy yet fun, with very no (that i can see) negativity to the game

I don't really care about thief-like stealth, but it would also be great if the enemies didn't know exactly where my men are on the map every time and just charge straight for them. I'm all for line of site, hiding, ambushes and all that.
Crappy idea alert: Maybe the enemy could deploy quit scout units in battle that go before the main group first, sticking to high areas, acting as the eyes for the army. So if you want to pull off all that ninja stuff, you'll have to get rid of them first somehow.

The Scout would be a great idea Specially in night levels.... add a lot more action and heart pumpoing parts

ALSO if this worked it would really help with that one mod comming out

Daimyo ( think its called) where you can be a ninja....ninjas are cool

I hope it hasn't been mentioned before, but stealth would only work if the enemy didn't know you where there...

In most games when stealth comes into play it's that the opponent hasn't yet noticed you. The thing about M&B is once a battle starts your leader and their leader ride out and discuss what's going to happen...

ya know the classic, "give me your gold!"

"No I'll give you my sword in your heart!"

that's pretty much authentic... as far as both sides meeting to discuss whether or not they would fight, or what their course of action would be.

I don't think you could accurately portray a stealth aspect with that detail in tact... You'd have to sneak up on them, and that's just not possible with an army. They'd notice you and once they do, they certainly aren't going to forget you are there...

With a small army on foot of say 10 or less troops I'd buy that it's possible, but you'd have a drastically reduced speed on the world map.

Horses can not be stealthy. Unless it's dark out and they've got something on their hooves to pad them and they are moving very slowly, horse make a whole lotta noise.

If anyone has ever been near 10 or 20 horses running you can literally feel it 50 yards away. THey shake the earth.

I voted no because stealth generally ruins some enjoyment of a game - pirates!! Enough said.

I like the idea of a line of sight with the enemy as it annoys me that you cant just ride up a sneaky hill behind them because they are all coming for you. but then, you are on a horse and with an army they are preoccupied with that, allowing you to come in from the sides.

For the battle map- a stealth option could be applied to hide your party when spotted so that they lose interest and wander off. (i.e. your rag tag band hides in some caves and behind rocks etc - all unseen by player and only in game mechanic) If the enemy has good tracking they find you and you are forced to fight, could even stage an ambush for benefits in tactics and possible loose troop arrangement/formation.

On a side point, enemy archers should not stay still, splitting up the enemy entirely, they should support from a distance and stand on hills to resist cavalry. Why don't the enemy troops do that. Yes it would be annoying and ruin some of the fun or riding them all down but an experianced soldier would do this. Stealth and LOS, back on subject, would allow you to come up the other side of the hill when they are busy so you strike from behind.
