C = cutting, P = piercing, B = blunt. The most important one currently is blunt, since blunt damage knocks your enemy unconscious rather than killing them so that you can take them prisoner.

EDIT:
Also, so I've heard, heavier armors have better resistance against cutting damage than against other damage types. That's just what I've heard though, don't know if it's really coded into the game or if it's wishful thinking on somebody's part. <shrug>

Rumor has it that blunt damage works better against heavy (plate?) armor - but I have not had validation myself - can anyone confirm??

well why don't you try and see for yourselves? charge that dark hunters army and fight them with a blunt weapon, with a piercing weapon and with a cutting weapon you'll see the following results (yep, tried them all):
- cutting is great against unarmored or lightly armored opponents, but sucks ass against armored ones (unless you're uberstrong)
- piercing does not do too much damage (when you compare it to cutting) BUT it does almost the same amount of damage against armored enemies
- blunt does medium to low damage but works fine against both armored and unarmored opponents (stronger against unarmored, duh) AND as it has been said before is extremely useful for getting prisoners and therefore getting lots of money from slave trade.
and well if you couch blunt or piercing weapons they do huge amounts of damage so they're better in that mode (if couching is available to that weapon's abilities)
