Unless the marketing guy somehow didn't participate in those meetings, i'd be fairly certain the multiplayer is designed to be e-sports like.
If all we have to go by is an instagram hashtag Id say the proof is incredibly light.
The class system doesnt make it better for competitive in any way, considering the only way to make a game esports is to have a high viewership, and the class system in no way helps that.
They take away the ability for players to customize their setup, making it incredibly difficult to analyse decisions. Removing the ability to upgrade makes any form of individuality vanish, the casters/analysts cant look at oh look at this infantry he decided to upgrade his head armor, knowing that the archery force on the enemy team have been picking off heads left and right, a smart decision! Thats gone now.
With all the classes in the game, it makes it alot more confusing for people watching, instead of having 3 easily distinguished classes, theres now 7, and while there are differences, some of them are hard to distinguish easily. The icons at the top of the screen dont help that either, having a tiny tiny, literally in some cases only a pixel or 2 differences in the icon of the class.
No spectator client still, will most likely have to wait for summer to see even the basic version of it, and a more complex version would probably take a full year, when a friend of mine could code one in I dunno, couple of weeks?
No skill based matchmaking, the very basic for a competitive community to thrieve.
No prize pools (its early anyway but if that was the focus, I dont see why not, especially since TW have been giving out prizes for bannerlord already)
Theres way more, even within the class system to touch on, but theres no way esport is at all a priority, its not even an afterthrough. The way it feels is more in the likes of "If it happens, it happens, but we're not gonna push for it"
So it wont happen.
