Started Own Kingdom, Game Thinks I'm Still Vassal

So I have a weird one.

This is my first time playing PoP. I have 3.7 plus the patch. I have not modified anything, nor used cheats (up until the bug occurred).

So I was a vassal of the Baccus Empire, great buddies with all the lords. especially Marius Imperator (he was the first character listed as friend). My relation with the Empire was 102 and with Marius was 45. I was the marshal and had been destroying the D'shar, taking multiple castles from them, but not requesting any of them. Finally I took Singal and requested it but Marius decided to give it to himself. Upset (and ready to start my own kingdom at this point as I already held Valonbray and was buddy buddy with the Order of the Dawn) I declared his action as unjust and renounced him and took my lands with me.

This is where it gets weird. So naturally my relation with the Baccus Empire drops from 102 to -40 (as we are at war now) and my relation with Marius drops from 45 to 25. That's fine, after all we were pretty great friends. But as soon as I take it for my own (and declare my kingdom name and choose my steward of the realm), I get a screen that says "Marius has rewarded Singal on [my character]," like you normally would if he had given it to one of the other lords. Next thing I notice is that everywhere I own has the red background (like when you have negative relations with them; also all my peasants and caravans flee me) and all the Baccus places and people are still green (when you have positive relations; Baccus peasant/caravans do not flee me). This is weird since I have negative relations with the Empire and also confusing because why would my kingdom hate me?? I had not even chosen my faction race yet (I chose Pendor). Another weird thing is that, while the Empire's vassals will raid my lands and attack my towns/castles, they will not attack me. Never once have they chased me or ran from me. Whenever I speak to them, they do not bring up anything about my betrayal, and many of them gained +1 or +2 relation with me from out last battle together.

After some testing I found that the game for some reason still considered me as part of the Baccus Empire. Whenever they would declare war on a new nation, that nations would appear red when I hovered over a town/army. Whenever they made peace, it became grey again (like when neutral). Teams I am positive with but the Baccus are not (like the Noldor), chase me down, but once they catch me they just go to the normal dialog menu. Very annoying if trying to wait or siege anywhere near where one of their armies might be since they will just sit on top of me and keep trying to "attack."

I think it has something to do with my character in particular. After trying to edit save files, I learned that there is both Player faction (me) and player supporters faction (my kingdom). After trying to leave the Empire through every way possible (betrayal, asking to be released, leaving but not taking my lands with me, cheats, even joining a new faction), and the issue persisting, I believe the bug has to do with the actual character and not my kingdom (it acts naturally other than running from me - none of the Baccus's enemies attack my people). I've even manually set my and my kingdom's relationship will all other factions to 0 and that's how I know it is persisting. If I change the Baccus's relationships, the way they show up for me changes too (if I make them not like their own self, then they show up as grey-neutral, if I make them hate/love someone, then they show up red/green for me).

I'm 630 days in and would really like to not have to start over, but this is unplayable. What I really need is a way to have my kingdom's alliances no longer be tied to the Baccus Empire, if that is possible.

So has anyone had this happen to them? Any ideas how to fix it?

P.S. - I know that I'm playing mod, but I believe this has something to do with the game itself, and not the mod. I think I know the problem but as I do not know the back end, I am unable to do anything about it. As I understand it, whenever you join a kingdom as a vassal, your political relationships sync (or somehow become the same) with the team you join. Then when you leave, they unsync? separate? I don't know. Either way, my problem is that they are not separating. Since this would not be something that the mod touched, I'm thinking it's a bug in my game.

I'm going to try and help since I don't think anyone has any answers...

It might just be a rare bug...unless

Have you installed any other mods? Even if you are not using them, there is a chance that maybe something fishy is going on.

Did you create a new game before you patched? The patch is not save game compatible.

Did you install the patch correctly? The patch files get copy & replaced into the MAIN POP directory. Sometimes you can accidentally drag drop it into a subfolder and not realize it.

Is there anything odd about your installation path or your computer?

Was ether the mod or the patch files stopped during download, and then resumed? Sometimes this may corrupt a file.
