I like the way it looks. it's pretty damn pretty
And good to see that there's an interface and you can control the ships. I had a quick glance at their website earlier and just looked at the videos. It looked like another GSB in those.
Which isn't a bad thing, but I've got GSB for that after all.

Anyhow, I'll keep an eye on this. Thanks for the introduction!

Can you specifically target certain weapons/sections of the hull? It looks like it.
Oh and is there wreckage or do destroyed ships simply disintegrate?

It looks amazingly fun. But is it linear?

Think M&B in space.

I think you can, with the exception of toggling automatic shooting, all aiming is done manually. Some weapons obviously don't lend themselves well to accuracy, but high powered long range lasers are capable of this. Turning of strafe mode makes the ship face where the mouse pointer is and "a" and "d" which are originally meant to turn the ship on its axis, now strafe left and right. You can aim specifically for sections of a ship in this mode.

I think there are two types of disabling. The first one is simply doing enough damage that the ship can no longer operate and gives you the opportunity to capture them after the battle, the second one is totally destroying the ship. The debris will still float around the field. In the fight with the two onslaughts, it was the debris left around the plane that gave me the cover I needed to blast those things without being blown up in turn.

Looks like fun. How fast does it play out? Can you pause the game to issue orders?

Well yes, it's like M&B in that you can hit tab and go into the warroom and issue orders. It pauses by default whenever you enter the warroom, though you can unpause it by pressing "p".

I bought the alpha, this looks very promising game.  I hope they make interesting sand box campaign in it and won't follow Gratuitous space battles example.

I have played few missions so far, hard ones are really HARD, damn.

I hope developer releases custom mission editor so there will be more to do while waiting game to develop.

They are making a sandbox campaign actually. They mentioned something a long the lines of M&B's sandbox mode. Not only that, but their retail scheme is like M&B, and taking this whole thing in stride, the dev quit his day job to work on it full time in a similar fashion Armagan style.

I've been keeping an eye on it for whenever the sandbox mode is added.

Another somewhat similar game which you might check out is Space Pirates and Zombies (S.P.A.Z.). Don't let the (rather bad) name stop you, I've played the demo and it's good fun. Check their Media section for some videos of it. I've been holding off on buying it until they offer it on GamersGate, which is supposed to be in the works. I can see the influences of the Star Control series on it.

I have it too. It's incredibly grindy after a certain point, and you come to realize that for all the stuff you do, you can't really modify the mothership all that much. I would much rather have it come to the fights with me or automatically mine around with some drones rather than sitting in some secret quadrant not doing anything.

BEHOLD THE PHALLUS CLASS SHIP!

New version released. Downloading mods has become easier I think, there are also a bunch of new ship designs in the forum thread:

Well, bought the game.

Sheesh, I've been on an insane indie-spree lately - despite my current not-so-good economy. Upside is I've probably spent slightly more than for a single AAA title but have gotten over half a dozen games in return

Minor update, but there's a chance for you to get a free activation code.

In other news, the dev blog has been over flowing with updates and other stuff, so you might want to check it out .

How does this compare to X3: Terran Conflict? That's also a sandbox space game, you start small and can trade, fight and do mission, and eventually you can build an empire of space stations and huge fleets of all kinds of spaceships. It looks prettier than this as well.

Edit: Ah, I watched a video and these are 2D graphics with top down view... X3:TC is first person and always 3D. This could be fun, but not immersive enough for me.
