Yeah, it's better to explain it before the **** starts to rain...

That mod could be great, but I think it won't fit wit this game...

Well, sorry lad, but a medieval simulator just really wouldn't be the best platform for a Star Trek mod. I'd check out the modding forums of some other more appropriate games if your really itching for one.

I'm pretty sure someone's working on a Star Wars mod, so I don't see why there couldn't be a Star Trek one.  Then again I don't really know anything about modding.

It would be nice if it could be done though.

Well the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek is that Star Trek focus's more on space and exploration, while Star Wars focus's more on battles, intrigue, and most importantly, battles planetside.

Star Trek   isnt it nough with a Star Wars mod :?
and simply M&B is a MEDIEVAL GAME NOT AN FUTURE :o

Hey, one of the best mods for this game is current era rather than medieval..

Though granted, not much has changed in Glasgow since then...

Uh, isn't that one of the biggest appeals of mods in general, though? To see how far you can distort a game from its original form and still have it work.

Don't be so narrow-minded.

Now, I've never put myself through a single minute of Star Trek, so I don't know much about the franchise, but if it has opposing forces and hand-held weapons, there's no reason it couldn't be done.

The problem with Star Trek is that land combat is boring. The Federation Military is just a sidebar to their Starfleet, and their lack of personal armor, ergonomically appropriate handheld weaponry, artillery, armored vehicles, and any form of grenade are just signs of their impending defeat by the Empire.

Who have thermal detonaters, scout -and- assault walkers in addition to Juggernaut assault tanks, pistols, rifles, carbines, light and heavy machine guns, and heavy NBC-sealed armor.

This is why Star Wars works better as a mod than Star Trek.
If you want to play a Star Trek shooter, try Elite Force. Made up a bunch of weapons just to justify the shooter genre.

Mahisa, the Star Wars mod is simply brilliant, so yes, you can have a mod in the future...

But as Star Trek isn't really a series about large military conflicts planetside, it really wouldn't work out.

A Trek mod could be done, but you might want to enhance the factions' ground capabilities a bit.  Its not as bad as you say, however.

Going just from memory, ground forces include:

Federation (24th century): ordinary officers with phaser pistols, marines/commandos/security with phaser rifles, what appear to be grenade launchers (Insurrection), some odd kind of jeep (Nemesis), and some bizzar type of transporter-using gun from DS9, if I recall correctly.

Klingons: melee and ranged infantry, light artillery.  Might be some refferences to Klingon ground vehicles, but I don't think they've ever been seen.

Romulans: ok, they're every bit as bad at ground warfare as what you described above. :)  Especially sad since they're quite good at intelligence and space warfare.

Federation (23rd century): phaser pistols and rifles, limited body armor and helmets, possibly light artillery (didn't Kirk use a mortar once?)

It would be nice if you could include the Borg, but I don't know how you could incorporate assimilation into a mod. :(

That's because it was written by the same guy who did the new BattleStar Galactica. And we all know how much he likes knocking off people :o.

Plus it wasn't even that popular.

This is borderline irrelevant to the topic at hand, but for accuracy's sake, I would simply observe that seven seasons doesn't sound like a complete flop.  It ran every bit as long as The Next Generation (no movies though), and there are plenty of people who will say that it had some of the best writing in the history of Star Trek.  Also, the Battlestar Galactica guy was one of numerous writers, and anyway he started writing on TNG.

Anyway, I'm not saying a Star Trek mod would nessissarily be great.  I'm merely disputing any idea that it couldn't be done.
