And more importantly, is it more awesome than Star Wars? ^_- Kidding.

Seriously though, any trekkies out there? What do you think of it and did anyone see the "How William Shatner Changed the World." Special on the History Channel?

I thought it was funny. You don't think it's possible for a TV show to inspire a generation of scientists?

nope thats why i said " BULL SH*T " cuz it just is...

No way could that every happen Technology just went its marry way and blew star trek a new one

I watch it, but I can't stand the original series, only tolerate Deep Space Nine and absolutely hate Enterprise.

Voyager and Next Gen on the other hand... Next Gen is weak in the first seasons, but gets much better later on and is based more on exploration, and Voyager is TOTALLY different from every other Trek series, its based more on action than the others, it also has a lot more violent alien races, and alot more Borg.
Deep Space Nine has its moments, but just gets annoying with all the fanatic religious aliens and their 'Gods'.
Enterprise was just lacking everything alltogether, it didn't look good, you never got attached to any of the characters and often had poor scripting.

I think Next Gen and DS9 are the only ones still on TV (SpikeTV on weekdays).

The original is so funny for its sheer campiness though.  I love it, its hilarious.  NextGen is pretty good, in my opinion.

The origionals made me laugh.  I like Next Generation for Patrick Stewart, but that's about it.

I like Star Trek, I'm not a trekkie, I havn't even watched any episodes for a few months, and before that one episode it was a few months, and so on.

George Tikae(however you spell his name) (Mr. Sulu) worked on the Howard Stern Show for a while, I don't know if he still is though.  He was...is, by far my most favorite Star Trek actor of all time.  NextGen however would be the one and only "P-daddy Stew", as we in the proverbial "hood" like to say.

I can't wait till he's senile and in a nursing home...some nurse is going to have her hands full

PS:  "Fire the torpedos!  Warp 9!"
Nurse:  "Yes, Mr. Stewart..."
PS:  My name is Magneto!
Nurse:  Yes...Mr...Magneto (sighs)...warp 9." (Nurse proceeds to push his wheel chair slightly faster)

George Takei (and it isn't pronounced the normal way, if you happen to know anything about Japanese names). I met him once at a book signing at the book store that was near my house, back in 1995 or somewheres around that time.

I watched some series. Some just when i had nothing else to do and it was coming on tv at that moment. Nothing i want to see everyday or whatever, but was fun.

It's silly, however, there is something to be said for "suspension of disbelief".  Besides, what happens is that each blast from a laser cannon releases a massive amount of oxygen and other flammable elements to keep the laser hot.  The escaping particles actually knock against each other and transmit sound however far they are knocked.  Since there is such a massive concentration there, the particles will often hit the other ships, the hull of the ship then will transmit the sound to the people in side.

Actually space is really, really noisy. Its not that we can't hear anything in space, its just the presence of countless nuclear explosions drowns out all other sounds.  We can't hear it yet, though eventually we will evolve to have space ears, a small organ which replaces the bowels (that's why there's no toilets, see?) and is connected to the ear. These wondrous organs will further evolve to filter out the huge noise, and allow us to hear space noises at reasonable levels.

Makes sense.

It is the massive amounts of gamma radiation or tiny meteors ripping through the hull and bodies of the crew along with the lack of gravity that would doom any space vessel. But when I was a little kid I watched the reruns every day  and I loved it. I felt my eyes water up a little bit when I found out Bones had died. I don't own any videos or collector plates and I've never been to a convention (not that there is anything wrong with that) but I do watch an episode on TV now and then if it is on and to me that is the only Star Trek. "She can't handle it Captain, I'm giving her all she's got!" I love the campiness and the bevy of beauties. I liked the first few episodes of Enterprise but then I started losing interest.
