Staggered spawn?

There are two issues with spawning into a combat instance that drive me batty. One has been mentioned before (spawning on cliffs/in rivers/etc.); this seems fixable if the spawn points are always in the same location (e.g. opposite corners of the battlefield) and the terrain engine simply told to leave those areas flat and dry.

The second one I haven't seen addressed: getting spawned in the middle of one's own army. There are times when I start the battle nearly paralysed because my troops have surrounded me, leaving me no room for maneuver. Like a lot of people I prefer to just tell my troops to hang tight while I ride off to soften up the resistance, but with everyone milling about there have been times I couldn't "break free" before the Khergit horde/Dark Riders/whatever are running down my very camp.

That's understandable were it influenced somehow by the tactics skill, but it isn't :(

Again, if spawn points were fixed I think it would be no problem to provide two for one's party: one a little closer in for your character, one closer to the edge of the map for everyone else. Failing that, just staggering the spawns a bit more would help immensely.

Comments? Am I the only one bugged by a wall of troops spawning in front of me?

I agree, it's annoying.

Slightly off topic: anyone else thinking it would be good if you always spawned facing the enemy? I have charged off at the start of many battles, only to sneak back with the tail between my legs after I realized my whole army charged in the other direction...

yeah this would fix the problem of my troops bunching up on themselves also, its damned annoying to have the horses yellin out an kickin an all (i dont like horses......)

It could prolly be fixed by spawning in orderly formations (you up front, line of horsemen, infantry/archers in the back) Only problem is the terrain is too hilly for that to be of any parctical use other than to start you off up front and formations are somewhat useless at this point since there's no cohesion.

Actually, *thinks* why not have a squad interface and you put who you want in wichever squad? Provided it locks your henchmen so everyone has to be within 6 feet of one another it will at least provide the illusion of squad based conbat. At least it'll force units to stay together and make it iasier for them to gang on straggling enemies. less usefull for horsemen tho.
