I think the addition of squires, would enrich game play and certainly, the realism of MOB. Basically, a squire was a knight's assistant for seven years (from adolescence- around 20/21). The squire had multiple duties, and specific roles, some squires only performed duties in the castle or court (Squires of the Table) others followed their knights into the heat of battle. The squire would carry some of the knights weapons, in case the knights sword/ lance were damaged. The squire also protected his master, tending to his injuries, and, if the knight was killed ensuring a honorable burial. The squire would also ensure the knights armor/ equipment was in good working order, and would assist the knight in dressing in his armor. So how would this affect game play? You would control your weapon load out via your squire, as well as horses. During battle you could call your squire to you (via one of the command keys) and you could exchange weapons. This would be handy if some sort of weapon damage system were introduced (lances splinter/ shatter after hitting solid armor). As you may perceive, I am for more realism in MOB, after all its one of the only realistic role playing games out there (no magic, zombies, monsters...). The squire would essentially act as a sort of bodyguard, he would travel with you in towns, always stay close during battle. The squire would also extend your inventory, and would carry your customizable banner (like the banners in Sword of Damocles/ other mods). You could also train with your squire/ teach your squire, raise him into a 'Arma Patrina' (basically a knight, without the title of one). You could also exchange riddles/ conversation with your squire, rasiing your intelligence/ charisma. In summary he'd basically be your bodyguard/ assistant.

Yes, I think this idea does sound very interesting. Perhaps it can be moded first, basically a character who you can talk to and access your inventory through him (rather than searching around the whole map for your baggage).

I agree too that weapons should be able to break in some extent. I mean, blocking a million sword blows with a small club really is unrealistic enough.

It is epic enough when you're fighting and suddenly you see a two handed axe smashing the shield off your hand, let alone your sword break and you must find another through piles of dead bodies.

Basically I go hands up to this thread!

no, breaking weapons would be annoying. Also, you don't actually block, the devs have said already the blocks represent a parry. Stop watching anime, no idiot blocks with a weapon. And no, a sword won't cut straight through a well made staff or spear shaft, ever tried cutting well aged, petrified timber?

(To further the timber part)

I live in a house built in 1852 (Its historical)

We were renovating whem y father hit a stud with a solid steel nail. The nail bent.. not even a scratch on the wood. to saw through a rotted one with a freshly bought buzz saw blade took over 30 minutes, and cost us that blade for just half a cut. Wood can become VERY sturdy given time, and the right aging process (Hell, I found a stick at the beach I used to use as a club in kendo. It weighed less then a pound, was solid, and cracked rocks without denting. I used to use it in mock sword fights with friends and it never broke.)

Edit 2: Also... until they make it so EVERY fallen man can be fully searched for, yet make finding a weapon easy enough, I say no to disarming, breaking weapons, etc

Basically you're saying no weapons will break in combat? I mean, even lance breaks sometimes in cavalry charges. The animation of the weapon breaking should be simple like the shield's as well. Just simply fall off your hand and play a nice sound effect. Also, something like weapon master should prevent it from breaking so easily, so a peasant is much more likely to break their pitchforks while a rhodok sergeant would rarely break his. But then again chances for metal weapons to break would be a lot less likely.

atm only maybe 10% of weapons are pickupable, thats what I mean't. For example, you have a bow, theres 20 dead guys in the arena, and a man with a two hander next to you.. you run away, looking for a weapon, and find maybe two shields, a bow, and some arrows... thats it of the 20 guys. If you want that realism, we need the other realism to make that a not so frustrating feature. ALL weapons need to drop except the few broken ones.
