Don't you think that caravans are being a bit too quick? They should be slower than an average mixed party. However, at least I have ofter trouble catching them(maybe becsuse they have a lot of horses in the party inventory?)

If they were slower then they wouldn't be worth it since the a.i would catch your Caravans every single time. I think they need to be quick.

You're not catching my caravan, you thief!

I don't think they're too fast, they're just about right, and their speed is probably higher due to high percentage of cavalry units in the caravans.
Besides, for player owned caravans, it would be frustrating to have your caravan destroyed every time it runs into an enemy lord.

Well caravans during wars must be a high-risk enterprise, during peace time it would require you to provide a decent guard to repel bandits.

AI enemy lords have no problems at all with destroying my caravans but they don't give a **** about others. Small lord parties are quicker and better in combat.

You really think it's reasonable for them to be slower just so you can catch them, when you probably have a much bigger troop count?
Sorry but that's absolutely ridiculous.

No, I think caravan should be slower, because it is loaded with goods, while my party is travelling very lightweight. In which universe/setting is it realistic for trade caravan to be quicker than a war party?

Depends on the warparty. Caravans are usually 30-50 troops, and it is realy NOT difficult to catch up to them with 100 men and loaded with supplies, granted that you have enough horses.

While I understand why current speed mechanics cause caravans to have higher speed, than you would expect from, well, a caravan, and my party of 80 ppl (with a lot of horses) can catch up eventually, I find it strange that I have to chase a caravan through half the map, while a party of looters can be caught way quicker(I know, horses).
As far as I know, the amount of stuff you are carrying doesn't affect the speed, unless you are over the limit. Maybe changing this would be an elegant way to solve my caravan problem  Anyway, I'll try out that mod

I mean, what you are saying kind of makes sense if you assume that caravans naturally travel slower due to them being "civilian" and assuming you are gallopping full speed (war speed) but the game only has one speed.

Personally, I think that there should be some sort of stealth in the game, through forestry, sight cones, or ambushes. In general, I think Overworld travel is a bit lackluster at the moment, and would love to see some modding/additions to it for the simpler Calradian bandit side of me.
