Unless your assignment is to be as anti- as possible it might be a good idea to mention that the military DOES provide for a lot of jobs. Is this for a debate or something, btw? Because if it is, then the pro- people will probably bring the 'jobs' argument up.
When the government conjures up money it lowers the value of the rest as you know. I consider that a form of tax. I'm unsure if this "tax" makes its way into your statistics or not. And every dollar the government wastes is a dollar that should never have been taxed.
I'm not a big fan of all these federal social programs either, but at the very least the military budget should be rerouted to another source. I'd prefer if the money saved by cutting down the military was used to drop the taxes personally.
Along with the higher taxes would be the socialization of every private industry in the United States, though. So you pay a couple bucks and get free services.
I get a hold of money, I use it to either rent or buy land, I build a Pizzeria and I get the income I get minus the taxes. Would that fit in with your system?
Do you mean to say I have obviously gone outside your system? Or that my example obviously fits into your system since it's still Capitalism? I'm not well acquainted with economic words and terms.
The military does not provide funding, which is just the point. If the military budget was reduced, that money could be used for research. Personally, I would spend it on paying of the deficit. I really wish politicians could be held accountable beyond not being reelected. It makes them short sighted. According to the link below, the US is 9 years behind in debt in ratio to its national income. Immagine a person with an income of $50,000/year being half a million in debt. Its ridiculous.
Click his link for "This". Its a massive picture I don't feel like hosting or hotlinking.
As far as the government providing Jobs, if the necessity of those jobs is in question, then those jobs are akin to welfare. It might as well be paying me to clap my hands 8 hours a day, for America!
Am I the only one who thought by "defense budget," the kid was referring to, oh, I dunno, shrinking the war effort and cutting all the stupid restrictions and hoops to jump American citizens have to bear with from paranoia?
