special characters and items

ive been thinking for a while now that wb really needs some new characters and some more special items. currently, theres only the strange armor and even that is not obtainable without edit mode.

some examples off my head:
1) xerina and danthon. shouldnt there be a option to recruit them or at least interact with them. i mean, whats their story, jst 2 jokers riding around joining every tournament in calradia?
2) bandit lords. have a few 'heroes' running around in bandit parties. just imagine for example robin hood and a bunch of forest bandits. could even give him a small contingent of merry men elites to make the fight a little harder.
3) special items for accomplishing certain quests or feats. maybe a cool faction-themed weapon presented by the king for getting 100 relationship with the faction? or for destroying a bunch of bandit lairs? the items do not even need to be powerful, just as strong as a balanced (whatever weapon you like using) would make it worthwhile just for the feel of it. it will give a added incentive to do quests and try strange stuff.
4) allow us to play as outlaws. seriously, running around raiding villages and caravans is just part of being a outlaw. wheres our bandit lair? shouldnt we be able to make use of a bandit lair to garrison and recruit bandits? I WAN MY SEA BANDIT ARMY!
5) females as lords. at least some of the ladies should be recruitable. especially a wife. ive seen quite a few threads asking for this XD

anyone have any other ideas for items and characters you wanna see? =p

I like these ideas. Maybe when approaching a bandit camp we could have the option to 'talk to the leader' and ask to join. There could be an initiation rite like defeating 5 guys at once in a training fight, or bringing some loot. Doing this would result in said bandits not attacking you any more, so if you joined a steppe bandit camp then steppe bandits wouldn't attack you but other bandits will.
Of course one would probably receive a massive instant relations hit with all the kingdoms.
So what could be the motive for one turning bandit? Well money of course! The bandit camp would serve as a place to recruit more bandits and trade your loot for a very, very good price. It probably should have the usual options a city also has like walk around/ go to tavern/ go to merchant/ ect..
Maybe something like tournaments could also be held once in a while.

Another way could be that after cleaning out a bandit camp we could have the option to 'take over' and use the base for ourselves. This could be like going independent but you cant ask lords to join you, you can only use companions as lords.

However in both cases im not sure how the camp would hold out against an attack as it would probably be overrun relatively quick. That is if the attacker would be allowed to use all his men and not just a small group of five.

Sounds like a nice idea on pixels, but is illusory IMHO.

The only reason there are bandit parties everywhere on the map is because they continuously respawn. Or have you ever met a bandit party that stood a chance against the main actors on the world map, to wit the lord armies?

I'd reckon the first thing we'd see if such a system were to be implemented would be complaints by players about how to stop lords from chasing them.

Nice idea, but different game. "Mount&Loot", perhaps.

or shooting an apple off someones head, and yeah if you aim too low - then the bandits have a pretty good reason to be angry at you

I like those ideas

1. If you own a city you should be allowed to buy and equip a group of man hunters to patrol your city.

One idea I liked is that sometimes elite troops would become characters.  Maybe have it trigger if one guy did something heroic or particularly badass.

I like the ideas

One idea to help stop the player being swamped by lords if they joined a bandit faction would be to give them a map speed increase. Nothing too impressive but just help your average so you can get away without much problem.

well, granted there will be ppl whining. to which the obvious answer would be "then dont be a bandit you wuss!".  anyhows, as seen in my suggestion (2), i would propose having supervillain bandit lords running around who would obviously be tougher than the regular bandit parties and possibly able to fight lords evenly. a simple solution to helping them survive on the map has been suggested by rin, simply give them a bit of speed to outrun lords.

i dont think its so hard to implement that its 'illusory'. a good template on how i envision this addition into the game would be sid meier's pirates.

@ Sammyboy: yea... i forgot all about manhunters. there should be some interaction with them too!

thanks to you guys who think my ideas are good. =)

Perhaps even have certain companions start as bandit lords and once you defeat them they give you the option of taking them along? Some seem perfect for this role.

If you would make these kinds of bandit lords you will come to the problem that they might behave like a faction. So they will defect or you'll get "honourable" bandit lords since there behaviour is mostly randomly selected, Except for Harlaus who always feasts.
