Wow that looks very cool.

Dom13, are you the developer?

In case any of you guys who like this haven't tried "Distant Worlds" (now on Steam lo-and-behold!) I recommend it. It is at a level one order of magnitude higher in scale than this: meaning you control individual ships not individual astronauts. Also civilian ships are automated and the focus is 4x in the tradition of Space Empires or Galactic Civilizations. It was originally a one-man show, some fellow from NZ, though he may have paid staff now.

The way the vastness of empty space between solar systems is conveyed and the way the map zoom works are best I've seen.

An integration of an engine like this with an engine like DW  . . . oh wow, nerdgasm.
Distant Worlds is **** once you get over the initial WHOA-factor. The AI is totally inept, the special bonuses from ancient wrecks are very overpowered, and features are lacking when compared to Space Empires or Aurora.

Do you have all the expansions? I found the game much better with the final expansion, than the vanilla game. Well, not this latest one but the one just before that. Agree the AI is predictable, though if you can point-out an AI in any 4x game that is "ept" I'd love to know.

The space monsters are idiotic, but luckily you can turn those off. The wrecks . . . meh, they are nice to find, but you can actually turn down or off how common they are if memory serves. Certainly a lot of other settings can be changed before you generate a new galaxy.

When you say Space Empires you mean the one that went to like version V that is now $5 on Steam or a different one. Never heard of Aurora.

Aurora is a sadomasochistic trap masquerading as a video game made with little more than a spreadsheet program.

We decided to release it now so we can get the best feedback possible from the players.

That's nice and all, but if the game still lags terribly whenever someone mines an asteroid, how is multiplayer with factions ever going to be fun?

Public multiplayer will never be fun unless they properly manage to figure out a way to stop griefers effectively

Don't 'stop' them; just build the game around them! EVE Online.

And how exactly would you do that in a Minecraft clone in space with a tiny number of players per server?

Don't buy it just yet.

there's not much to do from what I gathered, and our online experience was rather buggy at times. Like ships started vibrating and I saw AI ships that weren't there for other people, and vice versa. I hosted the server on my own computer.

Still a nice game though, can't wait until they add more stuff.

The whole ships vibrating and AI ships not there bugs are relatively new. I was hoping that they would have fixed it, this patch.

After the last patch the game became rather unplayable, I get odd freezes and crashes so often now >.>
