Sound problems - AC97 & Seperate soundcard

For a while sound effects would not be heard, only the music. I have a seperate soundcard, but also AC97 onboard.

While AC97 was enabled sound effects were absent but music present - AC97 disabled: all sounds and music heard.

This may be due to me messing with my machine but...

NB: Soundcard is Creative Labs Soundblaster 5.1

Thats why you should always disable onboard features if you get dedicated hardware

Seriously, if you don't need the onboard sound disable it in the BIOS, otherwise it will sit there and use up system resources for no reason.
