Sound Lag Problem

Several months ago I posted this problem and couldnt find a fix for it. I recently reinstalled Mount & Blade hoping maybe the problem would be gone now. I have just discovered that it is not. I am hoping this time I can find a way to fix the problem I am having.

The problem is this. At some point while I am playing the game (Native or Mods) the sound will start to become scratchy and distorted. Sometimes it will skip, some time it will be accompanied by lag, but it will at some point take a major quality hit. A long time ago I remember that I never had this problem with Mount and Blade. I had it a few months ago (I think it may have been around the time the latest patch came out but I cannot confirm that). I have sense reformatted my entire machine and the other day I reinstalled Mount and Blade and discovered the sound problem persists.

Some troubleshooting:

-I know that its a problem with the game and not my computer because the sound distortion only occurs when I play Mount and Blade.

-I know that the problem is not because of a Mod. I have yet to install any mods since I reinstalled the game and the sound problem happens while playing native.

-I know that the problem is not with my headset because even if I detach them, my built in speakers still produce the same sound issue.

-I know the issue isnt with my sound card or driver, I have the latest driver and as I said the only time this sound problem occurs is when I am playing Mount and Blade.

Sometimes the game will run fine for about 10 minutes before the sound problem appears. When that happens the sound problem usually stays until I quit and restart the game. Other times the sound problem starts when I start the game. I cant isolate what causes it, or any pattern like that yet.

Please if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem let me know so I can enjoy Mount & Blade the way I used to.

I have the same problem since yesterday  I cant play M&B because of this, the sound distortions are always there  and accompanied by lag I get like 10 fps now everywhere no matter on what settings.

I tried reinstalling to no avail.

I have had this problem when I play Mount and Blade for too long, Alt+Tab out during an on-going battle, or alt-tab while moving on the main map screen.

Restarting Mount and Blade or my computer fixes the problem but as I said extended amounts of playing the game cause the audio skips and the small bits of lag to occur as well.

I think its a Sigma Tel Audio High Definition CODEC. I have a mac-book pro that is bootcamped to run Windows XP. Before anyone says anything, I know that my machine can run Mount & Blade just fine because it has done so before. Ive been able to run it even in high graphics settings in the past without any problem so I dont know what happened.

Is there a way to get a readout of all my system specs? Basically whatever the system specs for a MacBook Pro are thats what my machine has.

Run dxdiag from XP and see what it reports. Might want to try disabling hardware acceleration on the sound tab while you're in there and see if it fixes it.

Since this seems to be a general issue with onboard sound support, I have posted a bug report here http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,77620.0.html
- just wanted to let all others affected know that I am affected as well, using a Sigmatel chip as well. Didn't want to start a new topic and assume that the thread-necromancy is justified by this not being a solved issue.

Same as monster, I've got the same problem but didn't think it justified a new thread. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I bought Warband a couple of days ago, and it worked perfectly. I downloaded a few mods (Litus, Reworked armours, Better Banners) yesterday, but didn't try them until today.

I get distorted sound in Warband and no other game. I re-installed the game without the mods, and the sound is still distorted!?

Nothing else has changed on my system, so I'm at a loss for an explanation.

I'm running v1.113, and I'm using a Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1 (it's an external USB soundcard).

EDIT: I have the latest drivers for everything, although for some reason dxdiag says my sound drivers aren't digitally signed. I got them from the Creative website...

You know what really sucks?  That you did one hell of a job on posting this and sadly it's in the wrong section.  Seriously I applaud you on what you did, instead of starting a new thread you used one similar to your issue *stands up and applauds* and most likely the search function.

I know that there is also some other gentleman having issues with the same or similar card.  I know because I was in awe when he mentioned the sound card.  I'm sorry to not be able to help you more than direct you to the correct section for your issue http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,164.0.html  I think if you do a search for Creative X-Fi in that area it may lead you to that thread.

Again I must say that you did a great job on your post.

Hey arse-wipe, I did happen to use the search function and this thread is what I got, so shut your sarcastic bloody pie hole.

You could've just directed me to the correct thread that you yourself have already posted in (which, by the way, has nothing to do with x-fi cards), but no, you had to be an arse-hole and defend your nerd rights to bag someone out if they make a mistake. I already knew I might be making a mistake by posting here, hence my apology in advance, you didn't have to rub it in my face.

Also, if this is in the wrong section, why hasn't it been moved/deleted?

I must say, this is quite a warm welcome to this community. I honestly hope there are more helpful friendly people on here, just like you.

What the **** are you going on about?  I actually gave you a compliment and you start calling names and insulting?!

I said that I applauded you for using an old thread with a similar issue and for using the search function.  Learn to ****ing read.

Yea I do remember posting that is why I mentioned I seen it before.  Again LEARN TO ****ING READ or at least comprehend the English language!  I applauded you on a great post you ninny, I wasn't bashing you.

That's it, I'm done trying to help out these people.

Hi, I am very late replying to this, but if you still have the problem, here is what I did to fix the bug.

First go to C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Mount&Blade Warband

in there, there should be a file named rgl_config.txt. Open it and find use_winmm_audio = 1.

Change use_winmm_audio =1 to use_winmm_audio = 0.

After I did that, it worked.

Thanks to GABRILDURO for posting this solution, after a lot of searching, I found his post teaching me this.
