Some troops loadouts are ridiculous

I'm finding some of the troops loadouts are pretty ridiculous and probably the worst example is the Vlandia Voulgier which is one of my favorite units. So I recruit these guys for their Voulge weapons but they also have two handed swords and throwing axes which don't fit the culture's way of fighting. Palace guards for the Aserai also have throwing axes as well. Units like these are just a bit too much and need to be dialed back to maybe just a side arm like a sword or a mace like most other troops imo. Besides that they are so much more deadlier when they use their main weapons anyways.

I would not mind throwing axes, as it seems logical that a ranged option would be added to the weapons loadout by a real person, and some axes are not that inconvenient to carry. A sword, short sword or dagger as close quarter weapon would surely been carried in addition. Adding a two-handed sword to a polearm is pure nonsense however.

There are still many inconsistencies in both armour and weapons, and not only in the elite troops; it seems that the philosophy of equipping the troops is to "give them all they can carry" and this should not be the case. What is the voulgier? Is it a skirmisher?NO, then why do you equip him with throwing axes?...For the voulgier, without hesitation I would deprive him of any throwing weapon and of that 2h sword (in MP it has a sense, in SP it does not), letting him the voulge as the main weapon and as secondary a sword or mace and tha't's it...he is already equipped with 2 weapons + the defence that provides a good armour.

Brytenwalda had an authentic frugal, dark and authentic atmosphere. You can only afford axes, spears, big knives (seax) at the beginning.
Swords were expensive like it should be and this was also visible on units.

I guess we have to wait for modders again.

I have my doubts about the defense that provides a good armor :p

The problem is that this game is too much around ranged combat, so everyone has ranged weapon. There is a weird interest on making ranged weapons unrealistically too strong, so most of units are getting access to ranged weapons to make all of them more useful. When I bought this game I did not know that I was buying a medieval shooter...

I don't mind throwing axes on the Palace Guard for some reason, but throwing axes on the Voulgiers I do. Imo, Vlandian troops simply shouldn't have them, period.

If Vlandia has to have a weakness, it should be their lack of skirmishers. All their troops ought to be lacking in tactical versatility. Spearmen are spearmen. Shock cavalry is shock cavalry. Make them more specialised at their limited roles if you have to, but make them limited regardless.

What I don't like is how most T5 untis are rocking some of the best gear in the game. Some of them are better equipped than nobles.
IMO T5 units should be using T5 gear, maybe low end T6 gear. Only T6 noble units should be wearing high end T6 equipment.
Vlandian voulgiers have a polearm, 2h sword and a 1h sword. Why? Who knows. They only ever use the 2h sword.

Yes, totally agree with this. Some T5 units have the best armors in the game like Legionaries and Veteran Axeman. The thing is that if these units would get a worse armor, a lot of people will complain about it.

I have been doing some test and it is amazing how much better Polearm units like pikemen and voulgier units do when you remove all of the other weapons from their inventory. They went from next to no kills and being useless to completely owning in melee, the pike would slow infantry down and the voulges would come crashing down on the ones that get past the pikes. Completely changes the dynamic of melee and why there needs to be a command to force polearm use.

Yeah, it's just a manner of speaking ?

Try test pikes only, then voulgiers only. I think you will pick up on an issue pretty quickly...

Another thing that should happen is remove spears from swordsmen/axemen units inventories and javelins from most heavy infantry maybe add a heavy throwing spear instead here and there if it fits the factions culture. In order for units to be unique they all can't have the same loadout, essentially all of the units are like hybrid units. While hybrid units should exist they should be a unique unit that makes a unit special and stand out like the Sturgian Veteran Warriors for example.

Weapon selection order button as in previous M&Bs.

The AI can't decide that, it must always be at the player's will (or so it should)
