Some skills level so slowly that they are not viable builds

Athletics and Medic level so slowly that they are not worth using in builds.

In my most recent play through I ended the run (1.5.0) with 200 2 handed, 200 steward, 115 athletics, and 75 medic. I maxed 2h first, then athletics, then medic, then athletics.

Athletics xp is based on the speedbonus you get, same for riding (iirc).

Try get running hits and try stabbing cavalry that is charging you (the rider, not mount).

Medicine levels kinda slow after the early game yes, but that's probably due to army composition :p. Having crap troops means more injuries/casualties, ergo more xp.

Most of the athletics XP comes from doing damage while on foot. It seems to level around 1/3 the speed as riding

Medic levels very slowly unless you kill your own army every fight with tournament arrows....shouldn't have to exploit to train IMO. Enemy casualties should count for levelling medic.

Sorry! Seems I was a bit unclear. What I meant was that riding and athleticism get xp from a similar situation, not that you would xp for athleticism whilst mounted. As for leveling speed, you really do need to game the system to get decent progress. That's the same for all skills but stewardship, where you can't "improve" the speed by being clever.

But I do repeat, try grabbing a long spear and shanking a charging rider and see the xp you get. After that, grab a javelin and ride towards a group of enemies and toss it at them, you might get upwards of 4 skill levels from just one javelin hitting if the speed/distance is good enough.

Regarding medicxp and enemies, there is a perk that should do just that. Can't recall name but the effect is "medicine skill applies to enemies as well" (or something like it).

edit: Imagine leveling engineer by only building the siege engines you actually intend to use. It would be a monstrous grind compared to the speed you can achieve by building "extra" engines that you instead place in reserve.

Is there anything official on the below or anyone that has confirmed by checking the code? I just assumed that javs do tons of damage so they level your athletics quicky (I've seen 230+ damage from a pila).

Athletics does level very slow compared to riding. I have 7 endurance and 5fp in athletics and even massacring entire 500 man towns myself on foot yields very slim gains after 100 or so. That said, getting it to 100 is pretty good for the movement speed, but as far as reaching higher levels in normal gameplay it's just not okay and really needs to be looked into and fixed by devs.

Medicine levels absurdly slow and needs to be investigated and fixed. The method by which if raises is also very poorly thought out imo. It should be a daily tick like stewart skill on top of casualties and healing wounded. Players strive for zero casualties.

It's still absurdly slow, I really tried but it's just inconceivably slow and worthless.

Engineering is probably the worst. A long siege making 4 trebs and destroying the walls barely gives my 80 skill engineer 1 skill points. There aren't enough fiefs on the map to expect a player to raise that very high.

Medicine goes up more quickly if you give yourself the surgeon role. But I agree it is kind of slow. My biggest issue is honestly with leadership. You have to be in armies all the time to get this up, and armies seem to be full of game breaking bugs with each release. I invest all my points in this nearly every time and it still goes up at a snails pace with x8 skill points.

Tried making a medic again. INvested fully into INT and medic.
I had 80 troops. I attacked a stack of looters, KO'd my team with tournament arrows, and then rested. In a full year of game time I hit 75 medic. I was HOPING that with 75 medic the 'Doctor's Oath' perk that applied my medic skill to injured enemies would allow me to level medic without cheesing--no luck.

Medic levels too slowly to be usable without cheats/mods

Bump. I second all of the above.

athletics, engineering, medicine all don’t progress properly.

also scouting doesn’t progress AT ALL on NPC led parties/caravans. I’ve opened a separate technical support ticket for the scouting issues.
