I've checked around and can not find a decent answer for many of these, some of the minor ones may have been answered though (Search function is slow as in most forums of this type).

1: When was this game started/is there a version history anywhere? I want to be sure its 100% active before investing in it.
2: What is the difference between the starting classes? I have found scattered posts about why class X rules though nothing definate on what gives you what.
3; What (if any) is the difference between the two nations? They are both rather nondescript though Vaegir seems slightly evil (with all its deserters and then the evil sounding name!)

There were more but I've forgot them...

2. Character have different stats, skills and weapon profiencies. For example: hunter is good with bow, but squire is with swords or priest has high intelligence but merchant has high charisma.

3. Vaegir are barbarian like (and both sides have deserters) and Swadians are more knightly. They have different troops: Vaegir knights have chainmail hauberks and axes but swadian knights have heavier armour and usually a shield with their weapon (or a 2 handed sword only).

Another question regarding the two factions: What's going on? Is it a civil war or a clash of two civilisations. I really hope the different cultures can be seen in the architecture of the cities when the Development Team gets around it. You know like how all the cities look different in Bethesda's Morrowind.

The game is certainly activly being developed. Since I discovered it about a month ago, i believe there's been 2 updates of varying degree... Not to mention it already has an active mods community, which can only bode well..
Also you can find at least one of the developers making regular appearances in these forums...
Enjoy and support... This small team (of 2?) has already achieved a beta that is more fun to play and more stable than many games bought off the shelves for way more money...

I would say it's a clash of civilisations, think along the lines of knights and steppe nomads/horse tribes.. The Swadians (knights) have better quality armour, and the vaegirs tend to have slightly better weaponry...

Don't worry too much about the nondescripness of things at this point, from what i gather the storyline etc will be greatly expanded come full version...

(edited typo)

I would definetly say that the Vaegars and Swadians are two separate civilizations. However, the Swadian "dandies" are the ones who are truly evil. Sure, they have better armor, horses, and ranged weaponry. That is what happened since the Swadians repressed the Vaegars for generations (of course, this is all conjecture). The Vaegar people, after being driven from the best trade routes and the most fruitful farmland have finally had enough. I would suggest you would join the true underdog of the two civilizations. Be a Vaegar Robin Hood. Steal from the Swadian caravans and defeat their stuck up knights. Only then will the grandeur of the Vaegar Nation be restored.

Concerning the initial class difference, at this point, the main difference is in their stats. However, it should be pointed out that a merchant will start out with considerable (comparative) wealth, and will have a much better party from the start. Hunters are fairly well off, then squires, who have the best weaponry and armory. Priests have high intellect, which gives them more skill points than the other classes, but have little money, eat grain at the begining, and have little more than a staff and a robe.

Concerning updates, most of the community seems to be expecting an update any day now. Of course, the developers will have it ready when it is ready. As has been already pointed out, after this patch (which is very useful for mod-ers), there will be a plethora of tools for mods to be created. Additionally, monthly updates will resume after this next release.

In a readme, if I remember correctly, was stated that it used to be so that Swadians ruled the Vaegirs, and now they are fighting for independence

Hmm... Interesting. What I would like to know if it's possible to remain independent, being a sellsword to both sides and generally profit from the war? It's evil I know, but that's how I want to play it. *cue evil laugh* Mwahaha!!

Well, you could just not join a faction, but simply hire troops and attack both sides. The caravans make a nice profit, and the prisoner trains are good to fill up your ranks.

Class background is just what you WERE...not what you will BE...

And yes, all it does is determine your starting stats and gear.

Yep, my priest is an armoured knight riding a charger and cutting people down with 2Hers.

Vaegirs are the supposed rebels. They however seem to have more of a uniform. Their knights are all wearing viking helms and chainmail on war horses while the Swaddie knights are more varied.

Swaddie knights have similar equipment as hired blades.

Overall, the Swadians seem like the Medieval French or something with heavy knights and crossbowmen while the Vaegirs are like steppe raiders and even mongols.

Joining the Vaegirs is more challenging as massed xbowmen can kill you in a snap.

I did try the bandit thing with raiding caravans and prisoner trains of both factions and it's a lot of fun.

Try Mag7 mod for you to actually be able to join the bandit faction.
