Some Newbie Questions

Users who are viewing this thread

Hey I played SoD a little with vanilla Mount and Blade but I'm just getting stated with it for Warband and I had some questions I couldn't find answers to. Are there troop trees anywhere? There are a lot of factions now and I'm not sure how they all relate. I get that the Empire is not necessarily the big invading bad guy here but does that make them just another faction I can recruit from? Are companions still around, do I need to do something specific to find them, or am I just unlucky and should keep looking? Why do I keep seeing messages telling me my relations with people I've never heard of has declined? Is there any easier way to locate lords in this game, the map is so big I spent 30 minutes trying to locate one ruler? What's the point of choosing all that stuff at the beginning if there's already a back story that has you stating with a bunch of troops? What's the point of the Gods and do they have any effect on game play. Thanks a bunch.

I'm not about to answer those questions for you, all of those questions you have, are answered within the forum already. Just take the time to look around. Your wasting your time when you write a huge wall of text.

Anyone else is free to answer his questions.

I've looked for over an hour and I can't find answers to any of these. I saw a troop tree that was marked as outdated but that was it.

hey iamdantemanstan next time try to place all your questions with numbers or something, not just in one paragraph.

troop trees, not really but they are +- the same as in sod 5.0 and older. The native factions are the same, the sod factions are also the same as in sod vanilla.

there is a post telling the story of how you came on this island and why there are so many different factions.

The empire is weak atm, your grandfather, (the guy you were in sod 5.0) defeated them and placed them on the brink of destruction, but yes you can recruit of them.

all the native companions are around and more are coming, the problem is that there are so many towns that its hard to find them.

no idea why some people/lords don't like you. Maybe because you post walls of text.

just ask the first lord you find "where can i find" and then you will find him way more easyer

the thing in the begining decides your stats, what troops you start with etc

chosing a faith allows you to get a certain kind of faith troops from nobles. faith troops are elite troops.

Computica,

Maybe you should ask for someone to be the official filter for this kind of thing.  You could call them the SoD:WB Ombudsman, since most folks won't appreciate being called the trash-hauler. 1...2...3...Not It!  Someone who checks this board on a regular basis and wouldn't mind answering the simple questions so you can go on doing important things instead of answering the same questions again and again. That won't soak up your valuable coding time, or more importantly, soak up your limited frustration quota.

I think we've got one...
Then you should increase the beatings until morale improves.

MM answered a few of your questions feel free to post here if you have any more, just order them like MM said if you have a lot of them. It makes things easier on me if you can order them like this since I've been looking at code all day:
Code:
[party_tpl|pt_computica, "start", [(call_script, "script_check_moderator_available", "trp_computica"), (eq, reg0, 0)],
"Are there troop trees anywhere?", "question_1", []],

 Just kidding, seriously I hope you figure out the questions you want answered.

Sorry, old military joke.  My first ship was a hardship posting, but the sailors who survived were like just much better than those who hadn't been tested.  Of course, a lot of pretty good people got pretty broken for some dumb reasons.  I broke, but my family is strong so I recovered.

The sign "The beatings will continue until morale improves" was posted in a number of places on that ship.  They wouldn't make us take it down because "a *****ing sailor is a happy sailor." When people stop complaining out loud, bad stuff is about to happen.  I'm not sure you want to model that in the mod, it is something that matters more in a framework of constant communication and I don't think it would translate well to the game.  The interface is not sufficiently granular to provide the leadership flexibility you need to deal with a genuinely sullen crew.

If you want I would not mind taking up that mantel. . As an unemployed college student it's not like I have anything better to do.

Thanks for the response. In the original SoD you could get special units by being in a faction and going to a town or by conquering a town for your own faction is it similar in the new version of SoD? And what troops do the different faiths give? Or at least which one has the best cavalry? Thanks again.

Hmm, have you played SOD warlords yet? I think playing through the game would ansewer your questions better. I don't know which faith & faction troop combination would be considered the best as there are 50 different types of them.

I'll be adding more for the native factions.

are you sure you played sod gold?

anyway,

antarians: best infrantery
villianes: best archers
marinian: best crosbow
zerikian: best horse archers
aden: best cavalry

each faith kind gives a different kind of elite troop, tough it all stays in the same speciality zone.

I repeat are you sure you played sod gold?
In there you can ask a nice little chart of all units to your strategy advisor...

anyway
guardian of the one: can't remember but they look nice often 2 handed weapons, I think higher armor than the rest not sure.
the void: focuses on increasing damage output (nice two handed weapons etc)
natural philosophy: superior weapons and armor
spiritual enlightement: better proficiencees (very good for archers in my opinion)
ancestors: two handed axe sweetness

your castles and towns will recruit units from the surrounding villages, these will include nobles. when the nobles become zealots you can place them in your garrisons where they will upgrade after some time.

I don't know what you mean by gold. I'm playing SoD 3.0beta with the patch, for Warband. What do you mean by "speciality zone?" Are the faith troops separate from the nobles? If so are any or all of them mounted? Thanks again.

... sod gold is the original sod.... youre really starting to work my patience here...

each faction has some sort of unit type it is specialised in like i said.

So i repeat in a more... clear? manner

Antarians are specialised in infrantry THUS their faith troops will be infrantry.
Villianese are specialised in archers THUS their faith troops will be archers.
Zerrikians are specialised in horse archers THUS their faith troops will be horse archers
Marinians are specialised in crossbows THUS their faith troops will be crossbowmen
Aden is specialised in cavalry thus their faith troops will be cavalry

And just to make sure everything is clear, cavalry and horse archers will be mounted...

In those variations there is an other variation in faith, as I said each faith has its speciality.

The nobles UPGRADE into the zealeous troops which can be upgraded to faith troops by placing them in a garrison with the right building present etc etc.

Are there troop trees anywhere?

http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,166764.0.html

A lot of stuff from the original SoD doesn't apply to the warband version, but that thread does have the troop trees and the faith-troop matrix.

Is there any easier way to locate lords in this game, the map is so big I spent 30 minutes trying to locate one ruler?

As with native M&B you can ask a lord of their faction where the king is. (or any lord in their faction for that matter)

What's the point of choosing all that stuff at the beginning if there's already a back story that has you stating with a bunch of troops?

Starting stats, as per native.  I assume they will be rewritten to conform with the story at some point.

WARNING:
I know this will probably come across wrong to some people here, but I find it hard to care.
END WARNING!

Well Comp you hit the big leagues now. When players come out of the woodworks demanding to be spoon feed everything is a sure sign that the Mod is huge and popular.
