Some balancing ideas for improved gameplay

Back in the old days, armies were generally comprised of over 90% infantry. Still, in this game, you hardly ever play on foot. I feel like you are missing out on a big part of the game by starting with a horse in your inventory, you never get to be the regular footslugging peasant, just fighting to survive.

I think that horses should be expensive and not be available atleast for the first 10 levels. That would make it more of a "Wow, I finally got a horse, lets kill some bandit scum!!" type of feeling.

This is partly also because I think infantry combat can be alot of fun, and offers a different feeling from the "run past and slash" type of battles you get when mounted. It all becomes more personal, you really are in the thick of the fighting.

Anyway, I'm sure alot of people will disagree. Discuss!

I agree to an extent.

I think that horses should be super expensive. As far as "not be available for the first 10 levels" .... I wouldn't like to see that. Traders are rare ... but some of us do trading runs to gain money quickly without increasing levels.

'If you can scrape the money together ... you can buy it', would be my thought on that.

I completely agree. But I think Armagan wants a beginner (demo) player to have a mount quickly so that he can taste the most powerful and distinctive side of the game, "mounted combat". So that he will understand the game mechanics more quickly and hopefully convinced to buy the game.

So we need an all diferent difficulty setting for advanced players. Maybe under the "realistic saves" option. Different balancing and difficulty on entire game not just with saving. Everything more expensive, same enemies with much higher stats and uber enemies etc. A beginner should be warned clearly in the beginning not to select it if he doesn' like challenge.

I'm against a minimum level to enable riding.

But agree with the "under-idea"...
Horses should be more expensive at buying,
and at maintening especially !
I think it 'll be important to transcribe in-game
what privilege it was,
and the fact that each privilege have his Price...

(This is already planned in the game, to have specialized horse's merchant.)

I like extend the same way for high-equipement too.

I think it would be interessant having less "big-party"
(I mean other than war_party, sure).
Render more difficult to maintain a party over 20/30 people.
Why not have a limit too ? That evolve in function army's grade.

Under 20, you can pass for a caravan.
But over, I find this very suspect...
That could be if you balanced other party, sure.
Band of bandit with over 30 men should be reduced at their number present on over-world at the same time, (as organized band)
and smaller party (occasionnal band) could be increased on return.

With a "pounds" system in the aggressive behaviour,
I mean it is possible to arrive at a nice balanced world,
where player keep a choice between forced to lead a big_party, or stay alone to be able fleeing.

I mean implemented religious site should be fine, and give a little extend at the "neutral_world".

I don't agree that any Medieval army compositions should having any bearing on this game. After all, you are either fighting enemies who stole their mounts, or leading elite men who deserve them. You aren't leading armies raised by Lords. However, I do agree that they should be more expensive and harder to get for the player. The player has to earn his/her mount just like the rest of them, after all.

=$= Big J Money =$=

I agree it would be nice *not* to start with a horse, but i also think the lower grade ones shouldn't be that much more expensive, but maybe slightly higher than your start price.

Could also require horses to eat grain, to make it more difficult for lower levels, just an idea.
