SoD beginners questions after searching

Recruit
- I dont know if this is specifically for SoD, but when I read the description I thought that the battle simulator allowed more detailed control of the troops in battle. I cant find it now, even after searching, but I might actually be confusing it with another mod  . What I was hoping was for something better than having to run around and tell the different groups to follow, stay, charge etc.
Is there a mod or function that allows it to click based? As in, 2 for all infantry, then click on a hill somewhere and then they all run over there. Or something similar to that.
I want to be a commander!

You can order your troops around on the minimap.

Press backspare to bring it up, click on the group you wanna command, and click somewhere on the map for them to go there.

It's unfortunate that the minimap has no features or contours marked, but it can still be useful.

Ahhh, that must be it! Thanks!

On a follow up note, is it also possible to create more groups? Say I want to split my 40 infantry up into two groups of 20 infantry. Is that possible?

Cool, thanks.

On a sidenote, is there a special strategy regarding regiments? I tried splitting up my army adding two regiments, but it seemed that if they lagged even a little behind, they wouldnt take part of any of the fights i get into. I noticed that NPC parties seem to be reinforced by regiments or nearby parties every time, even though they are further apart than me and my regiments.

Am I doing something wrong?

When you make the regiment, reduce the number of foot troops, or increase the cavalry. This will make them quicker - I always make them at least as quick as I am so that they keep up with me and in range for fights. If you need to, make many, smaller regiments instead of few, larger (and slower) ones.

The smaller the regiment, the greater the chance that it will run away from enemy forces (just when you needed/wanted it to help you)!
I generally use one large regiment, and pause my movement regularly so it can keep up. This works fine when sieging.
Make sure the troops in the regiment are on a par with your own troops...cannon fodder in your regiment will dilute your attacking force and could cause your siege to fail.
An advantage of regiments that I just discovered is that they will take the overflow prisoners that you had no room for...Nice!
I wonder if the regiment hires rescued prisoners that you didn't take...

Wow I did not know this, and I've been playing M&B for ages

Also, it takes a lot of practice, but once you get good at using the 1-5 to select different troops and the f1 - f9 for commands, it becomes very enjoyable to form ranks. I find "spread out" and "move forward 10 paces" to be very useful.

Oh hell yeah.  I usually have archers perched on the top of a hill, order my infantry 10 paces forward so that they're somewhat down the hill giving my archers completely clear LOS.  Cavalry waits on the flanks for me to lead them.  Then I tell my infantry to charge as the enemy gets close, tell cavalry to follow me and then swing around telling cavalry to charge smashing the enemy in the sides or rear just as they hit my infantry... devastating.

More or less same what i'm doing with a small change. infrantry waiting somewhere near archers, cavalary on the back, arch on the hill. When enemy is closing up i send cav to charge first, that makes them spread nicely and when my infrantry charge they tends to fight 4+ on 1

IMHO regiments are usefull only when sieging. You have to get big regiment or he will run from anything on the map, and that means he will be slow. Slower regiment, he would chase less enemies and would stay on siege : ) , faster one, more battles he would do alone -.- more people lost less help.

No, this feature is (will) only availiable with warband expansion.

Revenge of the Berserk has a feature that works around this limitation. Basically, you can form units outside of battle, then order them independently when in battle.

Yeach, it's doable. I think I could even code a feature that lets one to order separate unit types during combat without any pre sets before battle.
