I'm a rock lover, every kind of it join my music chart on last.fm. But if I had to trust on lastfm, I'd be an emo lover as many of the rock bands are tagged with this meaningless label.

For example, 30 Seconds To Mars, Plain White T's and Linkin Park are tagged emo.

Could someone who's familiar with these music genres explain to me what emo exacly is? Because to me it's just a meaningless thing that is being by haters to snob. Use a youtube example if you want.

I think if it sounds basically nice but isn't about raping the hearts of your enemies and doesn't fit in any other grotesque category it's emo.

I kinda liked Hey there delilah although I'm not really up to date in the musicing business.

Its hard to describe.... the emo people I know almost all exclusively listen to death metal, metal, or screamo. Thus it would be hard to ask them.

Emo is depressing music which is self-alienating. Though music can be depressing and not Emo. The Self-Alienation is key to Emo music.

Emo is something that you are, you don't choose to be. You are a hateful bastard who SECRETELY cuts himself and *****es about everything, whilst wearing black clothing to emulate your look.

You can very well choose to become whatever your environment allows you to be! To say it's not up to yourself but just kind of something which has managed to take control of your person is ****ing emo!

Agreed. Social expressions are just that. Social expressions. Wearing black  with lopsided hair has nothing to do with personality or philosophy, its voluntary conformism to a stereotype.

Since when emo meant a music style of some sort

Amongst us youngsters it means to dress in this... black clothing, make your hair look like Hitler's (Read: Pierce Elliot) and not to care about anything.

Or somesuch.

EDIT. Though emo kids do actually listen to a certain type of music.

Last I checked was ~2004 and I gathered that it was mainstream pop punk with melancholic lyrics.
Yeah, I believe this is the best describtion. Although the meaning has quite much changed, because genres like post-hardcore and screamo are always tagged emo too.

Personally I'm a singer, and I learned that there's a special technic to sing in an emo way. When I do I shoudl have a really small 'cute' voice, but I heard it before in indie bands too. It should sound something like Anberlin.

Emo sprung from the hardcore punk scene when the more whiny section of the middle class youth realised they weren't working class and never likely to be, so they went off and wrote songs about how life was sooo unfair and nobody liked them, which tended to make people like them even less.
