So I bagged me a king....now what?

Seriously......

Well I'm playing a nord vassal and currently at war with Swadians and Vaegirs.

I was doing a bunch of quests, one was leading a caravan to Halmar, another was herding cattle to Curaw and a third was to meet a spy in Curaw.
While passing Jelkala, I see the Swadian king engaged in battle with a Khergit lord. I figure I'd avoid him, but he defeated the Khergit and now left with 100 troops decided to chase down my 57.

Long story short........Vaegir archers+Nord huscarls+mountainous terrain = bye bye king Harlus, and I managed to capture him too (was quite surprised at this tbh, since the 4 lords I fought earlier all escaped).

Now, is there a way to somehow use him to make peace between the Nords and the Swadians? I'd like to wipe out the Vaegirs first and wouldn't mind Swadians being the last lot to fight off.

I still haven't got a castle or town as a fief just my crappy starting village which keeps getting looted by the Vaegirs, so I cant imprison him. I figure I'll just haul him around till I get a huge ransom (a King's ransom will be huge right?) and then when one of the guild masters gives me a make peace with the lords quest...Ill use the ransom to pay off the lords.

Thats my plan. What I'm asking is...is there a direct more faster way of making peace?

Ransom will be around 10.000.

There is no more faster way to make peace.

Hmm....so 10k for a ransom....Ive got about another 10k on me so I think I could buy em both off and I believe the guild master pays me 12k on making peace? So I guess I shouldn't be off too badly.

One last question, how do I make the Swadian lord talk to me?
I was trying to find out his location, but couldn't find a Swadian lord who will tell me that.
All I got was the "Haha, but I want to fight you!" bit.

if you want peace, you can take city quests. At some point the guildmaster will ask you to make peace between their faction and some other

Yep, thats the plan, but I'm having some trouble speaking to the Swadian lords.

I'm at war with them so I have to sneak into their cities and then I don't see a goto Lord's Hall option.

If I request a meeting with a lord in the castle, he just wont tell me anything except 'so you bested king Harlus, and I've been waiting to cross swords with you since' and then the audience is over.

Might be because my relation with Swadia is at -52 atm?

i believe your other option is to beat him in a fight, so just wait till he leaves the castle and punch him in the face a few times

i think there are more detailed quest guides in the strategywiki or in the faq childforum (the library)

As an enemy of their kingdom, you cannot ask a Swadian lord to reveal the location of another Swadian lord.  After all, you'd basically be asking them for strategic intelligence against their own side, so there's no reason that they'd comply.  Similarly, once you've snuck into a Swadian city, you are essentially an enemy fugitive and can't go knocking on the castle door because the guards would likely suspect you were a spy or an assassin.

For the specific lord you need to convince or beat as part of the peace quest, you may or may not need to be the one to initiate the encounter in order to convince him not to oppose peace.  In other words, if you want to buy him off, try talking to him in a castle or engaging him in the field when he has things other than a fight on his mind (such as running away from you.)  I've forgotten if you can buy him off if he initiates the encounter (that is, you meet and he has the intention of fighting you, usually denoted by his status of following your army.)  Of course, if you fight and take him prisoner afterwards, that would suffice for the quest regardless of who initiated the encounter.

Hope that helps.

You need to find the specific lord that the Guild Master says.  If you look at the quest detail it will tell you their last known location.  The first lord you visit will want 7,000 denars to accept the idea while the second wants 1,500.  Then, once they both are paid off (assuming that's the path you take) you go back to the Guild Master and collect your 12,000 denars.

I've been able to talk with the needed lord of the faction I am fighting even with a -100 faction relation.

As for the King, just wait for a ransom unless he is the one who is named from the Guild Master.

Yeah that was the exact problem I was having. Sneaking into a city I couldn't go to the castle (the guard thinks me to be a beggar and asks me to bugger off). Didn't know I could just win a fight with the lord and that will suffice for the quest.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just got me 11k for the ransom........... Cheapo Swadians!

Now just waiting on the guild masters, all they seem to want me to do these days is escort caravans.

Just a quick clarification: you have to capture the target lord, not just beat up his army.  If you don't consider this cheap, I would suggest saving prior to fighting your target so that if you don't succeed in capturing him you can just reload and do it again.

My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but I didn't think the buy-off prices and rewards were set numbers.  This was v0.960 (I think) and the quest might have changed since then, but I distinctly remember having both buy-off prices at 6000 or so for a reward of about 10000.  However, if you pay one off and bag the other, you will always come out ahead on the quest.

The 5 times I have done this quest (v1.011) it has been these fixed amounts...
