Smithing stamina should be removed

I am sure this has already been discussed a lot, but the smithing stamina system should in my opinion be removed since it does nothing but hurt the smithing system.

It is an idiotic system that only waste the players time, it does not regen over time so it forces the player to rest at cities and there is no indicator when you got full stamina again so you have to go in and out of the smithy to check your stamina bar.

I tried giving it a chance for a long time until i just used a mod to disable it entirely.
After disabling the stamina system smithing became much more fun and disabling the stamina did not break the smithing system.

If the stamina system is to remain in the game it needs a serious rework.

Yep, if you want to have stamina, it should affect everything. Our hero can fight the whole week day and night without sleeping, but he immediately get tired by some work in a smith. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

I actually like the mechanic. Makes smithing a skill that you level slowly while you do other stuff, e.g. recovering from battles. It also prevents a late game cash dump to power level it.

That being said its current implementation has a lot of problems. The menus and loading stutters you have to go through to keep your stamina from maxing out is awful. There should be some sort of stamina indicator from the campaign map, etc. etc.

think of it as a misnomer. Its not stamina, its time spent in a town that "could" have been spent doing smithing. But this could've been communicated by showing the campaign map fast forwarding a little every time you smith something

While I completely hate the Stamina system, I think it can lead to more interesting interactions.
To name a few options:
1) (Vigor+Endurance)*20 = Max Stamina.
2) Buying the Tavern to unlock a 'wait until Stamina is restored' option while making Stamina recover faster as well.
3) Perks which also grant additional maximum stamina or allow for Stamina to recover from Campaign Map travelling

The problem is that this current stamina is just a temporory thing to balance the mechanic, because smithing takes time, actually good craftmanship could take MONTHS.. imagine the game passing 30-60 days just for you to finish your well crafted decorated sword!!! how hard would you guys cry then? In the time you finished your sword, the whole world changed hands,, borders were changed, maidens were killed lords were executed,, and your sword turned out to be a big fail..

The stamina is now acting as a cap... so you can smith just a few things before you have to start doing other things.. actually finishing a sword should take long..

So perhaps they could make a system like they had in Warband with reading books.... everytime you rest of camp you start working on your sword, with a progress bar, depending on what quality and material you use and the access to a workshop will lower your time needed to finish it.

However I don't think it's realistic for players to have high smithing skill, because in real life smither mastery takes decennia's to master. A True master needed like 20-30 years of experience, I would much more like it if there are a few towns in the game (with access to Iron) which have well-known smithers NPC's where you can place an order for a custom made sword. Then after you get a quest to deliver the said materials after everything is done and paid for he starts working for an X amount of time, after that you get your custom made gear...

Here read up on this guys.

about 1-2 months

Usually a sword would take about 1-2 months to finish, not because they where spending that long making a sword, but because they'd be making a dozen or more swords at the same time to better make use of their resources; there's a lot of waste when you're smelting metals

Other sources say you could make a cheap sword (which would often break after 1 battle) within 1-2 days in medieval times.

The purpose of the game is to have fun. Smithing stamina is just not fun. Big exp from smithing should come from making high level weapons anyway, which will cost a lot of money. So money should balance out the leveling. Also melting down weapons is what should give new parts unlocked so one cannot just grind charcoal to get max smithing.

But hopefully they'll overhaul the smithing system or a mod will fix it

So if I understand correctly..

I am now with all the money nerfes already at almost 1 million... With you logic I could just dump all that money to buy weapons and smelt them.. Raise my smithing level to 100 (or higher) in 1 day...? Learn tons of smithing parts because I just smelted the whole weapon stock of 3 towns in 1 day?

No it's a system where you click a button 5 times then wait in town while watching youtube. It's boring, out of place and terribly designed.

Yes.

If you don't want to do it, don't. It's a single player game.

I don't see you questioning the lack of sleep, one soldier killing hundreds and thousands of soldiers and people running around with javelins sticking out of their heads so quit pushing your realism on everyone else.

If you want to roleplay, fine. Don't expect everyone else to put up with bad gameplay mechaincs just to facilitate you.

You know what ? I'm using a mod that removes smithing stamina AND a mod that increases the rate at which I get XP by 300%, i've bought hundreds of pieces of hardwood to refine, dozens of cheap weapons to break down, and I'm still only at about 100 smithing skill despite having put 5 focus points into it. So no, I don't think stamina is a balance thing.

Well if you have 1 million gold you should be able to. The economy should be balanced though so you don't have 1 mill gold though

Yup, smithing is what I do when I mod Twitch.

1. its a roleplay game.. if you dont like role play why play RPG?
2. the current mechanic it even seems you don't like it. so why should the game keep bad mechanics?
3. if you want to play a game that is considered cheating, then just use cheat codes.. don't make a game where the mechanics can easily be used as a gamey way of getting rich quick, which in a realistic view is crazy impossible.

Most of you things you say could be well overlooked. AS for example you have campaign movement speed, which btw goes slower at night, indicating that the average speed of night slows down because of unknown reason (I can tell you that my walking speed during night is just as fast as during daytime), but another explanation could be the average speed slowed down because there was a moment of sleep during the night in which for few hours people didn't walk. When I drive my car during a roadtrip for 4 hours at 120 km/h and I pause to rest for 2 hours, my car says the average speed on the trip was still 60 KM/H, even though i didnt move for 2 hours, which is nicely reflected in the game and quite realistic.

Secondly this game is meant so you advance slowly... its a life simulation of medieval times.. Especially smithing is one of the things that consumed a hell lot of time in medieval times... so smithing 20 weapons in 1 hour is just insane, when smithing masters with 30 years experience would be making 1 cheap sword a day.

So back to you why would the game need to break its simulation just so you could have unrealistic game-breaking mechanics, which many people especially me would consider a form of gamey cheats. I rather have you press the cheat panel then and type in to increase smith level +100 and create 1000 weapons. Then you have your solution. You don't even need to wait on your swords and skill level. problem fixed. But let me have my ROLE PLAYING GAME, which i signed up for.

I think it's fine as is. But if you play on easy settings I think it should be practically removed. So that you can smith as much as you like.

But as for those who are looking for a light saber from the smithy... I say get a mod .. don't ruin a game for impatience.
