I'm trying to build a smith character. I have 200+ skill point in smithing skill but i can't unlock new weapon parts since i reached to 90~ skill point in smithing. I have tried everything, like i've just travelled to all cities and spent about 1m to buy new weapons and to smelt them, i've crafted every weapon types with my best high tier parts but i can't even unlock a single new part. Is this a bug? if not, how can i fix this?

It needs rebalancing. The number of weapons you need to smelt to learn new parts is far too high right now. I'm using a mod to increase the rate until it's addressed.

My friend finds a lot of parts when he crafts a weapon or when he smelts then and he is not playing with mods. He also has 200 skill points on smithing. Can you tell me which mod you use?

In order to unlock new parts you need craft stuff yourself. Not just smelting.

Craft different types and variations. And smelt down high level weapons. That is what works for me.

Yea its completly broken atm.
I haven't tried it out with all the 100% perks on unlocking so far, because you can't refine good metal then.
The perk system on smithing is even more bollocks than at the other skills.
Without mods its unplayable, but i have given up on it for now for i don't want to use alot of mods during early access.

i've downloaded the improved smithing mod, and in its config file, there's an option to increase the chance of finding parts. The default value is 4, and i've changed that value to 40000 (as you can see in this screenshot >> http://prntscr.com/rz57ym ) and i still don't get anything when i craft or smelt weapons.

Yes, of course, both smelting and crafting. Progression is still very slow once you get to a certain point and it becomes a grind I'd rather not do.

If you think that i have a lot of parts unlocked here is how many parts that i have just for two handed weapon.
10 blades (have 0 t4+ tier, mostly t1-2)
9 handguard ( 3 parts are 4, no t5)
12 handle ( no t4+ too)
17 bottom piece (only 1 is t4)
So as you can see, i can't craft a good Two Handed Sword right now. Thats just an example, it is same for other weapon types also.

TBH if those are the amount of parts you have after spend "1 million" then you are doing it wrong or not playing the beta?

If you are eager to get all parts, pick the perks for it.

i have 22 1hand blades alone. 2 of them are t5. And I don't have any perk which grants smithing recipes. Neither did I spend anything close to your numbers. I barely bought 20 weapons the whole game.

Magic of the beta I guess.

I've started a new campaign noticing this bug, and on my newer character I'm not having this problem at all. This is only happening on my old character. I have more parts unlocked on my new character than i have unlocked on my old character. and my old character is on day 647 while my new save is on day 184.

I just smelted a bunch of captured weapons and then used those resources to forge new weapons. What made me confused was that if I smelt the weapons I forged I get steel and fine steel from weapons I made with iron and wrought iron.

I would say smithing still needs a bit of polish.

Smelting captured weapons is a great money maker though. Smelt some some decent swords and sell the steel or fine steel for several hundred denars each. I found a town that paid 700 per fine steel and 500 per steel yesterday.

I've started a new smithing character and have leveled it up to about 285 and haven't had issues unlocking new plans, might be a bug that is affecting you.

Dear god I don't have to tolerance to get past about 90. I can't imagine the grinding you'd have to do to max it out. I agree with the OP it needs to be fixed.

It actually levels extremely quick once you get to about 125 or so. Once you have all the bars needed to craft the highest level items, they each give you a ton of XP, the early part is definitely a grind tough.

I guess I just didn't get to that point.
