I am a very light sleeper. It can take me an age to doze off, and then I can be woken by the slightest thing. As such, stupidly hot nights are not easy. As it is, it is 3am and I need to be awake and alert in less than 12 hours. Unfortunately, I can't sleep.

I've tried:
Wet flannel on forehead and wrists. (Nice, but no lasting effect)
Being in the buff. (Again nice, but the room is still hot)
Opening the window (best so far, but breeze means the door keeps banging shut and any lorries going past wake me)

Any other suggestions for getting to sleep while melting?

A fan, air conditioning, and a huge man in leather equipped with whips, cuffs and chains.

Works everytime.

I feel the same, but these past few nights its been quite pleasant with all windows shut, and the AC and a fan on.

Well considering I don't have AC or a fan since I'm English and never need one...
The drone of a fan can have a lulling effect since it is white noise, I would highly recommend you try a standard fan even if it is on a low setting.

Horse tranquilizers work quite well, and not only are they good for putting you to sleep, but a small dose before you hit the town and you have one hell of a time.

Sound Machine? honestly this works well for a lot of people I know that are light sleepers.

Me: Im a hard sleeper(easy to sleep, not easy to wake up.)

Remember, practically, the deeper you go the colder it will get. Get a shovel a few two by fours and start digging.

Except the temperature plateaus pretty quickly at around 57F/14C AFAIK.

Also, before you can sleep your body temperature needs to lower some, relax a bit before you actually need to get to sleep and lay off of the caffeine. Failing that, try liquor.

In the summer time, I sleep outside on the balcony. I enjoy glancing up at the night sky as I awake to roll around on the blankets I laid down. The only downsides of this environment is the highway near me and the light pollution. The traffic noise dies away around 1 am so it's fairly quiet right now. The only downside is my ****ed up sleeping schedule not allowing me to get tired till around 4am.

:p

I am currently debating whether to drink a glass of mead I have in the fridge. I haven't eaten anything in about six or seven hours, so it should go right to my head.

I've found that ouzo is the perfect drink if you want to sleep.

Also, holy ****, It's been at least a year since I've tasted mead. Usually my grandfather makes it, but he's been having some health issues lately.
