Singing the 64bit blues (0.711)

I've waited for x64 support for a while and now it's here, wooohooo . I thought to myself after installing 0.710. Unfortunately I didn't have time to do more than fire it up and run around for 5 mins.

When I next had a chance to play, 0.711 had been released. Unfortunately upon installing 0.711 (full install, not patch, after uninstalling 0.710) I was returned to the "Themida" titled error box with a square in it situation.

Uninstalled 0.711 and reinstalled 0.710 but this didn't fix the problem as expected. Completely uninstalled and began to weep.

Went through my registry and deleted anything that turned up whilst searching "oreans", "blade" and "themida" if it looked like it shouldn't be there anymore (i.e. if you came across a key with "koreans" in it, chances are it's not part of the copy protection).
(note: if you want to delete a key and it wont let you, check your permissions for that key by right clicking it and choosing "permissions" then ensuring you have full control). Also ran RegScrubXP for good measure.

Rebooted and reinstalled and...... nope still broken

Whislt fighting the urge not to frisbee my monitor across the room (my computer is far too heavy to hurl unless you enjoy a hernia) I tried again a couple times (desperation, disbelief, not sure which) and it brought up the loading menu! Thinking I was perhaps losing all sense of reality I closed it and tried again: error, again: error, again: nothing happened (WTF? no mount&blade process or anything), again: worked......

The above is basically how it is now - not sure if it means anything but when it errors there is a "mount&blade.exe *32" process with 2 threads, when it works there is a "mount&blade.exe *32" process with 32 threads.... (and sometimes nothing happens and there is no process at all). The errors:works ratio is not constant and sometimes will error 10 or so times before loading.....

Irritating and would be nice if it wasn't like this but at least it works

Phew! Time for some killing

MrLiZaRd: I'm very sorry for this problem. The problem is probably unrelated to x64 support since version 0.710 has failed to run as well. M&B is known not to work on systems where a trojan, etc. is attaching extra threads to processes. This problem could be that. I'll try to tackle the thread attaching problem in the next version, so you may have better luck then. You can also try scanning your system for trojans.

I don't mind so much as long as I can play!

I find that if I try to run the application in rapid succession I can get it to work in about 2 or 3 runs but if I wait it tends to error every time, don't know if this helps.

I'm as confident as I can be that I am not infected by a trojan, I run Nod32 antivirus and my system is regularly fully scanned, I'm protected by a NAT router and tiny firewall. I also run spybot s&d, lavasoft adaware and use hijack this on an occasional basis.

If there's anything else that occurs to me I'll let you know, if there's anything you'd like me to try that I can do to help just let me know.

Keep up the good work!

Data point:

I just built a new system, running Win XP 64. All components have freshly downloaded 64-bit drivers.

Mount & Blade 0.711 runs without any problems.

(System-related, at any rate. I'm experiencing the "no free slot for kidnapped girl" bug. )
