The original singleplayer Mount&Blade is fully updated and fixed. Anything new is offered by the fan community as a mod.
Warband is still getting updates, which might be why so many mod-makers are waiting to port until everything is settled.
Honestly, it is up to you what you want to do. I would recommend warband unless there's a specific mod in the original game that you want to play.
