Silent Hill

So, I went to see this last night. It's definately one of the more disturbing films I've ever seen and from what I can tell was very accurate to the games. Besides that, I found it to be very entertaining. Anyone else seen it? I think it's definately a discussing type of movie because of the ending and some of ambiguity surrounding some of the events and things like that. But maybe thats just because I've never actually finished any of the games.

I saw an advert on TV last night, I've never really played the games but I'm a fan of that film genre so I'll probably see it soon. Have you noticed that loads of games are becoming movies? I heard somewhere that someones making a Halo one and that a Splinter Cell movie is already underway.

I heard Peter Jackson was doing the Halo movie, which is interesting to say the least. But yes, they are making video games into movies because it is a popular medium of entertainment now. Unfortunately, 90% of all video game movies are terrible. Also, I think the rash of video game movie is due in part to the fact nobody has any good ideas anymore (Thus the slew of sequals and remakes.) Silent Hill though was very good as far as I'm concerned, made me go: "Oh my God..." a few times and usually movies can't do that.

If Peter Jackson is doing it then it should be good, King Kong was great and Lord of the Rings goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, they were so awesomely incredible that they will cast a permenent shadow over any other fantasy/action movie. Lets just hope Master Chief isn't Orlando Bloom, Ian Mckellan or a huge gorilla in a suit.

I never saw Doom but it was supposedly abysmal.

Imagine a Mount & Blade movie, who would play Marnid, Borcha and the arena team?

I think that was already discussed a while back, hehe. I forgot who people decided on though.

If Orlando Bloom is even in the movie as anything but a marine who gets killed within the first five minutes of the movie I'll crucify Jackson. Hes a worthless actor, only reason people like him is because hes good looking. It should be good if Jackson does it, but we'll see.

supposedly a metroid movie was supposed to be started in like 2005, but nothing has happened yet T_T. That would be kinda tough to do, considering she never talks. But Silent Hill looks rly good, too bad im not into scary movies, saw teh exorcism of emily rose and almsot crapped my pants

If it's a Uwe Boll directed movie, it will be ****, as a rule. He's snapped up lots of movie rights to a lot of games, so expect some ****fests to roll out.

Im not sure if i'll see silent hill, most reviews are quiet negative but I suppose I'll have to make up my own mind.

Peter Jackosn is a co-producer of the Halo movie, the special effects will be done by his WETA studio in New Zealand I believe. The director is still undecided, last I heard there was talk of Guillermo Del Toro taking the job. A connected rumour is that if he directs, Ron Perlman may play the Master Chief.

Perlman is certainly one of the finest actors of today and has the physicallity and presence necessary for the part, not to mention great voice talent (he's voiced many computer games, not to mention Halo 2).

Lastly I will say this, if Uwe Boll directs Halo, it's doomed. If Paul WS Anderson directs Halo, it's doomed.
Despite what both directors may think, they do no justice to the franchises they translate to the cinema.

Watched the trailor of Silent Hill. Sounds really intense and scary, too bad I have to wait till 11th May to watch the actual movie.
The game is creepy, plus the cruel graphics geneerated by old engine makes it way creepier.
My advice is, buy yourself Pampers and wear it when you watch it.

Hmm - System Shock/System Shock 2 movie...starring Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network

SHODAN that is.

Think it'd be possible to make a good movie from that?

I think something that'd be wonderful as a movie in it's own right, woud be Planescape Torment. Mind bending settings, amazingly deep themes and characters and a moving score.

Shhhhhh..

Uwe Boll is coming..

I know that this was mentioned before (I believe by Worbah), but I have to scroll the page down just to avoid having to see your avatar, skyrage.

I was happy that Uwe Boll didn't get the license for Silent Hill, that man destroys everything he touches.

Personally, I can't understand the negative reviews. I've read quite a few of them and I personally disagree with 90% of the negative points made against the movie. I found it freightening and disturbing and last I checked that is pretty much what a horror movie is supposed to be. That and it was also mysterious and didn't explain everything to you. Don't know about the people who reviewed the movie but I like it when a movie makes me think.

Yes, I know - it can destroy any man's vision with it's overbuffed cuteness - why do you think I picked it in the first place? :p

Possible?  I echo okiN when I say **** yes.  Probable?  No.  Far too likely that some **** director would get it.

On the strength of that, I'll see it then, Penny Arcade also left me feeling a little intrigued.
Right after I see Kokoda.

I like Uwe Boll's excuses as to WHY he alters the movies so much from the game. All of it is of course BS since a good director ought to be able to adapt a mere game much much easier than to a book. For instance, Alone in the Dark with that Slater fellow - I've happened to seen a friend play the game, and the movie had absolutely nothing to do with the game at all. It was just an overactionized piece of junk movie.

But then again, Boll's not what you'd call "great".
