Sieging with the Imperial State

Alright guys..I'm having a sort of a problem. I'm allied with the IS, and we're at war with the Vaegirs. Me and a few other generals sieged this castle, and I realized the IS suck at sieging(We lost a lot of men against their hundred or so..we ended up winning, but that was sheer numbers). Anybody have any tips on how to..not suck at this? I'd rather use a IS-only force, mainly because of laziness..I can't just roam the land hoping to find some good infantry mercs in a tavern. Currently I'm sieging a vaegir castle all alone, and I'm going with the tactic of "Stay away from the walls, and exchange fire with the men on the walls and hope my guys are more accurate and don't die".

Besides getting some melee troops thats it.
Imperial State do horribly suck at sieging and I always laugh my ass of when IS come knocking on my door because I cant really loose.
On the other hand, laying siege to a IS castle when you have to wait for the siegetower to close with the wall isn´t much fun that either.

Only the computer sucks with IS in siege. Otherwise, they should rock led by a player. The main thing to do is not charge up the ladder like a maniac, but rather tell your men to stand where they are and blast the everliving Filaharn out of your opponents. Working shoulder to shoulder with the IS is a bit of a lolfest in a siege situation, but it gives the enemy lots of meat they have to churn through.

IS is in my opinion, the worst faction to be in when besieging. They are however, the finest when it comes to defending against siege towers.
They have no dedicated melee and very light armor, and 99% of them have guns.

But then again, LT and IS combo is awesome. LT infantry to storm up the ladders and IS infantry to smoke the enemy out. hehehe!

The best you can do is to rescue a mix of units and balance it out. But when you do get that castle you have it for the rest of the game.
