Sieging Help....

I did a search for this, but turned up nothing, which makes me think that maybe the problem's just me. I kinda hope not, but ... well, anyway, here goes.

I'm helping Lethwin Far-Seeker reclaim his Nordic throne, and somehow I managed to take Tihr, as well as convincing the lord of Wercheg to my side, leaving Ragnar holed up in Sargoth. Now, being stupid, I decided that this was a great time to start a war with the Rhodoks. I took one of their castles fairly swiftly and easily, then I told three or four of my lords to follow me as I laid siege to Yalen. About halfway through building the siege towers, they decided they were bored with me and left. No caravans or other enemies wandered by; they just decided "screw that noise" and were gone. I clicked out of the siege and checked where they were going, and it just said "Traveling," not "Following Caravan" or whatever, so obviously they didn't see anything. This has happened every time I tried to siege something, including castles where I only have to build ladders. I even tried getting a bunch of lords around me, then calling a campaign, then finally commencing the ladder-building, except once again they decided that they were having none of this waiting about business. It happened every time I tried to siege Sargoth as well.

Any thoughts on how I can make my lords actually stay in one place so that they can be useful? As it is, I'm waiting for one of them to start actually attacking a castle or city, and that could take quite a while....

Known issue.  If you want it done right, do it yourself unfortunately.

It is useful, here, to train up a very large number of elite troops and stash them in one of your garrisons. Assault the target, kill a bunch of their men, withdraw when you're getting beat up.  Pick up reinforcements, wait a day to heal the injured, get back in there.  Troops do respawn over time but not THAT fast.

Well, bugger. I don't have any garrisons.... Oh well. Thanks for the help.

Forward, noble Nords, to your probable demise and definite suffering!

You have a garrison... you took a Rhodok castle. That should give you a decent boost of troop numbers or at least give you the ability to train up and swap men so you take only Veterans (high tiered troops) with you. The Lord not following thing is noted and discussed in length. This very forum has a multipage topic a few pages back that tries to discuss the issue. As long as the admins have taken notice, I would think it'll be fixed in the future.

But, unless you turn your battlesize settings up really high you'll never fight more than 150 or so enemy troops. As long as you bring 90+ of your own you should be fine (note that it'll show 300+ but they wont ever send out more than half).

I gave away all the castles and towns and such to other lords in the rebellion, basically because I wasn't powerful enough to need them. I've only got the forty-six guys following me now, is what I meant by 'no garrison.'

EDIT: Although that ... IS a good idea about the battlesizer.... I wonder if I have a better chance of handling the castles by myself if I set it as low as it goes....

Well, im with the Khergits and today i took over Teravin Castle, Uxhal and Praven. I just got up a load of Elite Khergit units and took them all over 1 after another.
In your situation if your using the Nords get 50 archers and 50 Huscarls and that way you can do it on yourself. To help me i go onto options and reduce the unit thing to 25. Helps loads.

I'd like to ask about that, is there a set time for troop respawn in sieges? Is there a difference between ally and enemy respawn times? From my last castle siege after 1-2 respawns in both sides, the enemy got reinforcements 2 more times whereas I didn't...I figured that perhaps all of my troops were sent and just unconscious/killed so I had to do a last charge with my archers. However after the battle the stats page informed me that only 47 or so of my troops were wounded and few killed, but I had 90+ troops and there were only like 20 archers with me on the last charge (of which a few were added to the final count of 47). So yeah, is there a limit to how many reinforcements I get? I don't know if I should wait or just come back the next day... Maybe some of my men were having lunch so they didn't join in the siege ?  lol, hopefully someone can explain

You get 2 waves of reinforcements on the attack. I believe defenders get 7. Note also that in order to be reinforced, your numbers must drop below a certain level. The fact that they got two reinforcement waves before you got one means you were probably chopping through their numbers way quicker.
