Siege mod - suggestions,expectations...

I have been thinking about siege mod a little because it's claimed to be very interesting and unique.

Here are few of my suggestions.
Warning: Probably most of them is not possible to make !!!!!

I would appreciate if experienced modders post if the game engine allows such functions or not.

1. Siege engines + ways how to get inside castle.
Battering ram - I think its possible to make one.(it should be technically similar to siege tower just there will be an animation 
                      of castle doors opening when the ram reaches the gate.)
                    - I also highly suggest that people moving ram/siege tower should be barehanded (the other players will   
                      have to shield them ,even with their bodies :grin: ). But i dont know if players are capable moving sige engines           
                      because in native only bots could.

Ladders        -If its possible make them equip able.If you drop it with "G" key it will just fall in the way player is oriented.
                      But there will be a line around castle designating the right distance from castle so you know when to drop
                      it.
                    - The problem is that the ladders in native are impenetrable (some arrows can get through and some are
                      illogically floating in air)

Breakable doors/gates - Breakable like shields with high durability (mainly axes will have slight effect).
                                - Imagine Celtic village with palisade wall ,where you have to chop the outer gate after it the inner                 
                                  gate and at last capture the chieftain's hut.

Attack from the sea - Attacking and raiding seaside town with Drakkars full of Nords waiting for bloodshed. Simply 
                                amazing.
                            - The drakkars will float by designated road you will just disembark.

Tunnel                  - You will go to castle through tunnel (kind of stupid ,because tunnels were used to destroy fortification
                              not to invade castle)

Spy                      - One or two players from attackers will spawn at defenders castle (they will have the same armour as
                              defenders ,the only difference is that they can be killed by defenders (weapons does not bounce
                              off)).
                            - there will be needed random spawn of all troops around castle because if all spawned at the same           
                              place they will be found out very quickly.
                            - mission for spies is to open gate or destroy/use gate mechanism , if they fail attackers have to chop
                              the gate (they will lose time)

2. Defenders weapons
Rocks                    - Probably not possible to throw big rocks at ladder climbing enemies.
Burning oil            - Proly too not possible.
Stakes                  - Grounded stakes that will kill horses again probably not possible.

3. Hybrid conquest/siege mode 
                            - will be limited by time not by number of respawns (maybe bots will be limited at least on defending 
                              side). This will prevent from running to corner of map or hiding somewhere.
                            - pretty simple attackers conquest spawns and move forward ,while defenders are trying to hold 
                              spawns as much as they can.

Here's a little map that i sketched (Yes i know my drawing sucks).

Also i highly suggest that there will be at least two ways how to invade castle so the defenders will have to focus on various points.

4. Off-topic : Rescue mode 
a) Players agains AI
                        -just chop your way through mass of enemies to the castle prison ,free the king/lord ,make him follow
                          you (via command or dialog?) and escort him to your spawn point.
                        -there won't be respawn
                        - the problem is that AI is stupid so one player can easily lure guards somewhere and others can easily
                            fulfil the task .

b) Palyers vs. Players
                          - one side have to free vilagers from bandits.
                          - Similar to Counter Strike
                          - Bandits avoid rescue of hostages , but once they are saved (following enemy) kill them.
                          - Rescuers save hostages and dont let enemy harm them while rescuing.

That's all folks. Feel free to post your suggestions.
 
I like some, I dont like some. But first, I will commend you on atleast trying to fit these ideas to the constraints and limits of the game. And also how you fit it to the feel of mount and blade. Alot of suggestions for entirely new content are just way out there and dont have the M&B feel at all. These... well. you just did a great job.

However, I will have to disagree on the spy mainly. Spies are not M&B at all and although I'm sure something of that nature existed, it was not a real big prominent deal in these kinds of battles. When you think medieval battles you dont think of spies. Sorry  :???:

Depending on what you mean by siege engine, I may or may not agree. Anything that is an engine of any kind I don't want to see. However, man pushed gravity using battering rams, would be an interesting possibility. Altho I think with even player factions, attackers pushing this thing wouldnt have a chance.

Moveable ladders is a good thought, but I don't think would be easy to implement :sad:

Now enough about the negative. I LOVE the breakable doors idea. You could just make a big shield more or less and give it the appropriate HP. and wallah. Break-able door.
 
That's some good effort on your suggestion for improving Siege.

As of right now, I'm disappointed with the Siege Mode, they just plop a flag and commence the slaughter!

I was also thinking along the lines of how the defenders would have to fight against attackers, both sides with "limited" respawns, and the further you get pushed back, the more time you have to wait for respawn. Or your fighting to last a specific amount of time, and then switch sides to see which one fares better.

All in all, Siege still needs a bit of work, heh.
 
I agree the flag in the courtyard seems pretty generic. I think they should make some sort of obj for taking the castle. Maybe have breakable doors on the actual keep or maybe a set number of respawns per team ( defenders get less respawns than the attackers), or even make it like battle mode where you only get one life and just put in some team balance mechanism where the attackers have like a 3:2 player ratio

One of the most common ways for a powerful fortification was to fall was treason by someone on the inside.  One ready example off the top of my head is the siege of Antioch during the first crusade.
