Shouldnt Settlement Icons be incorporated into the core game?

Thats the whole point. Game crates a world with mathematics based calculations and we are acting as they are real life scenarios. I was arguing about settlements having icons about missions you can have isn't really breaking my immersion instead it improves it. If i was in that situation and looking for a way to improve my relations with a village (or make some money) i would tell my scouts to gather rumors. I would also make a map along the way and mark the villages of the type of troops i can hire or type of production they make. Simple as that.
It depends on personal preference, I suppose. And what we're used to playing and how we're used to have information presented. If those icons were representing information your character gathered in some in-game meaningful way (sent companions to gather rumors, had a scout who has a perk that shows icons in an area around the character, talked to citizens in taverns, you name it), I'd hands down support the addition.

I am probably the only person in the world who liked asking for lord locations in Warband, so you shouldn't listen to me much xD.

This is something I'd love to see for both player and AI - that caravans, villagers, shops, met lords can all provide information based on Trade/Stewart/Rogue/Scout info.
