shouldn't companions/claimants return their gear you lent them before leaving?

i equip these guys with the best gear the money can buy but they want to leave all of a sudden and disappear without returning the gear.

same with claimants, once the taking back the kingdom quest is finished, they disappear with all the gear you gave them.

we should at least get a "talk" option during our goodbye conversation so that we can take back the stuff.

nope, you should strip them before letting them go. Nobody said you 'lent' that gear to them

You could always go and find them again and ask them, "Hey buddy, come back." Then strip them of their gear and say, "I think we should separate for a while, naked person."

i guess i can reload, strip em, then let em leave.

since i sold off their original gear when i got them better ones, i guess they think it's theirs for good.

I always dress them up in peasant dresses and wimples before I kick them out of the party, so I can laugh at them when I see them at a tavern later.

Its rather easy with companions, I think they keep the gear you gave them, so you could just find a traveler and ask him where the companion is (cost 30 gold, probably the best price of anything in M&B), or find the companion on your own. Ask him to come back (they always come back as far as I know), strip them, and kick them. If they left once they'll probably leave again..

If the companion is good at some partyskill so that you want him/her in the party, just give him some medium gear (like Brynje, Nord Helmet, Nord Shield, Nord Sword/some axe, you should get all of that after a good Sea Raider hunt) that you get from loot, so that when he leaves its not that big deal, and when you want him back he aint stripped..

Not that easy with claimants though... But anyway, since they become King/Queen I think its nice that they have some nice gear, you know, you could always cheat and get back the money you spent on the gear you give to claimants, think of it as the claimant paying you for the gear. After all, now he/she is a King/Queen, they just take the money from the taxpayers : )

Don't know what the cheat is, but someone knows : P

it's probably not too hard to txt mod to add the option of seeing equipment and taking what you want back when a companion gives you the "i wanna leave" conversation.  i saw there is a txt mod to ask an enemy lord/king to see his equipment and take what you want when you defeat him and take him as prisoner.

If you strip them from their gear before the claimant leaves you, he stays half-naked. And that looks dumb. I gave Lethwin Far-Seeker Heraldic Mail with Tabard, a guard helmet, a Steel Shield and a Masterwork Sword, so he has very decent and nice looking equipment (I don't remember the boots and gloves).

On the character I have now only 4 companions have clothes on, 2 of them are in my party, and the other 2 I have not found yet. Apart from that they're all hanging around in their bare skin and undergarments.. I was thinking about buying a ton of those pink/purple felt hats, find all of them again, hire them, give them the hat, and then kick them out again.. That would a funny sight : )

No point in hiring your companions back if they always wear plain clothes. They'll be useless in combat. But if you gear them properly 5 companions can take out 100 mid tier troops.
