Should we trust information this old?

I know there has been a lot of changes since this interview. I was wondering how much of it should be taken seriously at the current stage of development.

Yes you should. However, make sure to remember that things changed. This is especially true since Frank Elliot left taleworlds around 6 months ago.

The flow of information has tightened considerably since this interview. Tale world's newfound tight lip makes me increasingly skepticle of some of the more substantive reveals in this interview. I believe it's important for the devs to let us know if anything from this interview has been completely abandoned.

They have not become less forthcoming with information since that interview, in fact the opposite is demonstrably true (4 visits to games conventions since that video, and since last summer we've been getting weekly blogs). "New found tight lip"- I think you might be deluding yourself. We have never been getting more information than we are now from Taleworlds. Even with M&B and Warband, in between beta patches there were virtually no information updates, and with Bannerlord what started as a regular sequence of blogs quickly became far more haphazard. By the time of the video in the OP, in early 2016, we had already had to get used to long periods without a blog and no idea of when the next would be coming.

Horse armours are something we have seen evidence of both before and after that interview, there is no reason to be at all pessimistic about their inclusion. Frank also talked about commanding a smaller part of the army when not the most 'senior' lord in command of the army, and we saw that demonstrated at a later games event.

I like how TaleWorlds is always accused of being 'suspiciously silent' about Bannerlord by having years of devblogs under their belt comparing to industry standard which is pretty much just rumours until release date is set

You guys are right. I didn't express myself properly. Before, though new info on the game was much more rare, when we did get info, it was usually substantial amounts of it. The dev blogs For the most part are very sparse in terms of new info revealed in each one. They went into impressive detail when explaining the new modding tools but outside of that it's been a very slow drip.

I don't mean this as a denegration of them. I recognize the risks associated with putting the cart before the horse, but the change in tactics when it comes to reveals is difficult not to notice.

I can't help but think that much of what was mentioned in this interview would be more worthy of a dev blog than shield physics or facial expressions. Not to say those subtle features don't add to the game, but if Tale Worlds already feels secure enough (by it's current standards of secure) in the way it's implemented things like custom banners for example. Then it stands to reason that further explanation of those systems would be more interesting content for the vast majority of their base than most of what the blogs have been delivering.

I trust anything from the latest Gamescom and onward. It's hard to believe any of what Frank said considering...you know, but also because of how they said it would be in the players hands twice and didnt happen. It just feels like they have a much better grasp on things now, even though we are being given no dates or anything, yet theyve gone into good detail about things like multiplayer.

Ah, right. Yes, that's true. I think they are partly leaving some stuff as a surprise, but mainly wanting to eke out the things they do feel comfortable revealing for a long time.

Frank wasn’t the only TW representative who talked about getting the game into players hands in 2016/2017. TW appologised collectively.
I’m certain he was honest in that interview - TW may get things wrong, but they don’t lie.

Anything Frank mentioned will have been included in BL’s development. However, there’s no guarantee that all features will make the final cut when the game’s balanced and optimised. Hopefully, banner customisation is still on the cards.

I obviously don't have access to any backstage info, but it always confuses me when people talk about Captain Lust like he was acting against the community, while I had a feeling that he was fighting for every tidbit. Imo, more info being released to us is result of TW making a shift in their policy, not simply switching Lust for Callum.

Does someone want to key me in on this frank Elliot dude? I had no idea that he left. Why?

Hello Mount & Bladers!

It is with mixed feelings that I’m writing to inform you of my decision to part ways with TaleWorlds after five years at the company. At the ripe young age of 20, I stepped into the office in Ankara as a Mount & Blade super-fan and began an incredible tenure, during which I learnt so much and met so many fantastic people. Now, at 25, I’ve decided to return to the United Kingdom, primarily to be closer to my friends and family. Though I’m still a Mount & Blade super-fan and always will be!

I’d like to thank the company for the faith they placed in me, hiring a 20 year old with no degree and no work experience! They have supported me tremendously and it has been an absolute privelege to work with so many talented and passionate people.

Thanks also to the forum moderation team, including the admins and everyone over the past five years. I really believe that I’ve helped to forge a better level of interaction with the company and I’m optimistic for the future of the forums and the wider community, of which I’ll remain a part!

Last, but certainly not least, I want to say thank you to the community. Being the face of the company hasn’t always been easy, but it has been a joy and an honour to represent such an incredible series in the public eye. I was an active member of the community years before I joined the company, and I believe having that perspective has benefitted both myself and the company over the past five years.

I’m leaving my community management responsibilities in the capable hands of my old friend Callum and our PR effors will be coordinated by close-friend of the company and long-term partner Antonio Santo (Jaleo PR). They already have some exciting things planned, so look forward to hearing more from them soon...  :fruity:

I wish all the luck in the world to my former colleagues in meeting everyone’s expectations with Bannerlord!

Frank (The blader formerly known as Captain Lust)

Im not saying they lied, its just that looking back they didnt seem to have a very good grasp on what they would be able to achieve/include, going to what you say there's no guarantee all of what they mentioned will be included, but now they seem to have a good grasp on things so what they say will almost definitely happen.

Banner customization is not a big issue lol though would be nice to have of course.

I had assumed that multiplayer was good to go, but way ahead of singleplayer and TW had had second thoughts about a split release. However, the recent multiplayer uproar about battle mode suggests that its not ready for private alpha tests by competitive players. Something fundamental must have changed to break TW’s timetable. Probably a major engine change. Hopefully it seriously upgraded performance/graphics rather than just improving consol compatibility after lessons learned in Warband’s release on Xbox/PS. One day, when it no longer matters, somebody will tell us what happened.
