Sofia Johanna Jeanette Munsterhjelm von Platen 说:Firstly, the Japanese Constitution prohibits the deployment of the JSDF outside of Japan and is also the reason why it's called a "Self-Defence Force" and not a military.
Secondly, it already is fairly large and is really well equipped. Despite the name, it is quite capable. Abe has been increasing military budgets for a while now and it shows with the JSDF.
Thirdly, everyone should remember that Japan is far more than just Shinjuku cosplayers or Akihabara nerds. All the weird stuff is exaggerated and amplified - Japan isn't actually crowded with tentacle porn, nor are there vending machines selling used panties on each street corner. While the hikikomori problem does exist, it is a fringe thing. Japanese youth at large are no more inept when it comes to social interactions than their Western counterparts. You morons watch too much **** anime.
Fourthly, Japan has not done the same cultural soul-searching that Germany did after WW2. There still exists a strong Nationalistic element in Japanese politics. This is why South-Korea and China and Taiwan and even Philippines are quite vary of the resurgence of militarism and nationalism in Japan. However, the threat should not be exaggerated, as there is a quite strong leftist and pacifist element too, that acts as a counter-balance.
DYSTOPIAN 说:I haven't seen anyone bring up the demographic catastrophe that's going on in Japan.
DYSTOPIAN 说:It would not be surprising to see Japan take a leading political role in East Asia once they've reestablished their military sovereignty for eerily similar reasons as the Hirohito regime.
DYSTOPIAN 说:Also since they opened up their economy they've been relying on economic packages from the government to sustain their prosperity. Or you could just explain what you mean.DYSTOPIAN 说:DYSTOPIAN 说:Also since they opened up their economy they've been relying on economic packages from the government to sustain their prosperity. use your imagination, maybe a bit of victoria 2 logic
Too late indeed.DYSTOPIAN 说:I'd rather not embarrass myself either
too late
Largely because I only post when I know something about the subject. I know, it's a shocking thought: people who actually don't spend their time ****-posting randomly but actually share their knowledge. And in this case Jacob had no trouble understanding the context of my post:DYSTOPIAN 说:Every time you post you act like you are the end-all be-all authority on ****
JACVBHINDS // 寒心420? 说:Flyingfishy said that the young male population is socially inept and needs the army to straighten them out, and JhessiKKKa said that's an exaggeration and Japan is pretty normal.
Explain further. I am only aware of the hikikomori thing where they become hermits and then the traditional salaryman thing.Jean-Chrysostôme Bruneteau de Sainte-Suzanne 说:Yeah, while the anime culture is greatly exaggerated, the general societal failure of Japan's male population to, well, succeed is a genuine phenomenon.
Jhessail is indeed an omniscient ancient being with a big veined omniscient penis. Beware the penis!DYSTOPIAN 说:Hey there's no fault in mixing up ****posting with knowledge giving, no one likes an uptight academic. Dude you post about **** you don't know anything about all the time don't give me this omniscient mightier-than-thou crap.
