it's been months since i last played the game. i really love it, but honestly i stopped playing because i got very frustrated when doing the campaign.
simply put, i got pissed because no matter how many armies i destroyed, they magically returned 2 days later with the same numbers, if not more. it got frustrating because i fought, lost soldiers, and had to recruit low level soldiers to fill the numbers, only for the enemy come with full leveled armies. did they adress this issue? i love the game, but i see no point in playing if i can't have a fair fight against the AI.

I used to have that problem too but I think they fixed it bc everyone that I fight that I just captured have low-level recruits

Unmodded I think its become abit better than it was, but still think it is abit too much like you describe.

You can counter it to some degree with perks - aka donate loot to troops to boost their xp alot, so you lvl the troops up much faster(be it armor or weapons or both, you'll take alot of loss in terms of not selling the loot, but it can be worth it to go from recruits to t1 and beyond faster)

To some degree the npc's "need" to have favaroble respawns when they come back, read they typically have a small retuine assigned for free when they respawn, so 10-20 troops, and yes those will typipcally be t3 or better.
The rest of the troops though of the 100+ is typically going to be recruits etc more on par with the player.


I dont know which platform you are on, but if you are pc - I would recommend playing with mods as it dramatically change some of this aspects of the game that is "frustrating" or grindy.
You can even have mods that actually do just that when a defeated lord is respawned - wont have any units at all, so they will recruit fresh like you.(I havent stumbled across this as a seperate mod, but as part of one).

So with the right mods its really great imo, but still vanilla its very frustrating and grindy to put it that way.

i'm on pc, but i wanted to do achievs, and i think mods disable them.
playing on pc gamepass if it matters.
if AI is cheating less, maybe i will come back
