I have played this game for soon half a year. And I wonder, what is really the difference between the short swords and the long swords.. I know the one handed and two handed, but what makes a short sword better than a longsword?

and along with shields, shorter blades are faster; the only exceptions being the balanced bastard sword(faster, much more powerful and slightly longer than regular 1h) and balanced great sword(a tiny weeny bit slower, and much longer and more powerful than a 1h). If you don`t use a shield but prefer to simply chop your enemies left, right and center, you go for 2h. If you prefer a more controllable fight, and prefer to use shields instead of mobility/ranged weapons  against missile troops, you pick a good shield and a 1h sword.

True ^^ But if you use a sword and shield, doesn't the damage decrease, nor Im I wrong?
Nope. Oh, and you might want to change the voting options, a longsword can be used one/two-handed, hence long.

Only with a bastard sword ( I'm not 100% certain about it) but with other sword it doesn't though heavy shields might slow your attacks down a bit but high unhand proficiency will cure it

There's an optimal striking distance for most weapons, and short swords allow you to get inside the reach of other weapons while keeping at your optimal reach. Getting there will probably get you killed unless you're lucky or know what you're doing.

However, with fairly light armour and a good shield you stand a good chance of succeeding, and you can get right in front of your opponent to deal out some facestab.

EDIT: Grammar fail.

I`m not pro shield. I`m just telling him what he can do with shields. Do note that I put it `if` he prefers to use shields instead of mobility/ranged weapons against missile troops. I maybe very brash in my activism, but I`m mostly ****ting around; people have their preferences, and if they can make what they like work, all the better - there`ll be more diversity come Warband

It's a date then  Ohh and I'm really honored that you are willing to waste a arrow on me:wink:

Auch, getting slapped with a gauntlet might be quite painful,

The length of longsword is usually a disadvantage itself. It's much easier to get blocked, and unwieldly when crowded.

If both have equal capabilities, the only purpose of longsword would be to fight mounted or fight against cavalry - my 160cm sword of war in EGIII can pierce the knights and their chargers before their lances touch me

I actually prefer longer swords and axes because I like to stay a bit further away from enemies to not get overhauled (Not sure if it's the right word)

to each their own. I don`t fight in packed crowds, normally, but prefer to have some space around me, for which I also need a longer weapon.
