Shock troop ranking

I've always been a fan of Peasant levies as a shock troop and think they're obviously the best "Shock troop" unit. But I want to see what you all think.

1. Peasant Levy & Berzerker
3. Savage & Rabble
5. Legionary & Voulgiers
7. Guards
8. Clan warrior, Menavlion & Warrior

Menavlion used to be by far the best. They were also great at killing cav. Now something has changed so they kinda suck in big cluster fights, I think they just can't swing the weapon.

Berserker is probably the best now but not by much since the 2-perk system gave so much utility to all troops.

Berserker has best stats but my favorite is guard. Rabbles and legionaries aren't shock troop because they can't bring 2h weapons

Peasant levy, Clan Warrior, Warrior, Rabble, Legionaire are NOT shock troops. Shock troops are only the units having the axe icon next to them, only those are the true shock trooos by equipment, weapons and stats.

Yea I put in Leagionaire by mistake, I'd debate for peasant levies being shock troops though.

So the official definition of Shock troops is that they have 2handed weapons?

IMO the official definition is that they have the axe icon in the class selection screen.

IMO, there are og Shock troops, the official ones. And there are units that can be used as "Shock troops".

"Military units that contain assault troops are typically organized for mobility with the intention that they will penetrate enemy defences and attack into the enemy's vulnerable rear areas."

Or a counter to shield infantry.

Not exactly, but basically in practice. Shock troops are those used to mount powerful offensive assaults, to break through enemy lines/defenses. In order to push through heavy defenses, they need to have the most devastating weapons available, which typically means hard hitting two handers.

In this game they're just defined by the large axe icon. Or the curved sword for savages.

I think you have a point with the peasant levy, as they can be equipped with a two handed weapon that does shock troop type damage. However rabble and legionaries are just shield troops.

Yes yes, we get it. Interesting that some people think Legionaries are better Shock troops than Menavlions though.

I find peasents to be the strongest atm. They have weaker stats than berserkers but have 7 more units. I had a one on one with a berserker troop and won it quite handily. However: He didn't use his throwing weapons since he was sneaking up a hill and wanted to fall us in the back where I was positioned. I am pretty sure that the throwing weapons would have made him won quite easily, since without shields all shock troops are quite vulnerable to them.

I still stick to peasents tho since their sheer amount makes them so strong and I feel like you often don't have that many opportunities for (effective) ranged attacks as shock troop. You either tend to be behind your shield wall end the enemies shields are facing you or you flank around and need to get into the fight quickly without having time to waste on throwing weapons. The one case where they tend to come in handy is against archers to start killing them before they shot all of your units.

Voulgiers are atm in a bit of a bad spot since peasents out perform them as do most other shock troops. Savages are worse with stats I think but they have access to an anti armor weapon as do berserkers.
