Ship help

Hi,

I also have some questions about ships...

I just tried (with cheating, so I can try all options) to sail and fight on sea.

Sea battles work just great, with some little boat clipping without dire consequences (except that it's sometimes a bit hard getting on the other ship). My main question is, how can you fit your whole army on a ship?

Renting a ship works well (except for a bug when I Ctrl-clicked near some dena pirates to fight, I couldn't move anymore... But then you just have to play without cheating, right?).

Buying a ship doesn't work: I had an army of 234 men. I saw, max capacity of a ship is 90 (a most reasonable number, in my opinion). So I need 3 ships to fit everyone in.

First, I bought one ship. As expected, I get an error message, whatever crew I put on it, that no, I can't board.

Next, I bought two more ships. I crammed about 80 men in two of then, 30 in the third, and kept 45 men in my party. I can send all three ships to whatever port I want, perfect.

But. I can only board one ship (the one that is not full (no problem with that), and I cannot get the other ships to follow me. This means that short of renting a ship for 60 schillingas per hour, even if you already own a whole fleet, you cannot sail with your full army around you. I find it a bit sad. I completely understand that it is surely very difficult to implement, but if there is a way to put your whole army in ships you own, that would be nice. This "bug" kills a bit the advantage of buying ships, in my opinion.

Also, I think that by the time you can throw 25k by the window for buying a ship, you already have more than 90 men, so... Perhaps lowering a bit the price (around 10k, perhaps) would be better?

Next section: the bugs.
- Alt clut has no port, although it is near the coast and has the "coastal town" icon on the map?
- Caer Liguaid, Aileach, Duin Foither and Bebbanburh are too far of the coast, and you cannot "disembark at port" when near. Disembard here and send ship to port works, though. In the case of Duin Foither and Bebbanburh, though, I couldn't even land, and M&B freezed (perhaps due to the weird shape of the coast at this point?)
- Aileach and Bebbanburh have a weird bug that makes you unable to board at these towns: the ship just disappears, and goes back to the town when you leave (you can still see it in the ship list and ship management, and send it to other towns).

That's all the bugs I found.

On a side note, when you send a ship to a town, it travels instantly. It would be better (yes, I'm a masochist) to actually send him here, so that it can be attacked by some dena pirates on the way. Just an idea, I am pretty sure it would be very difficult to implement, so i'm not asking you to do that (especially with only one release to go).

Anyway, nice job, even if I point to every little details off... I really love this mod.

The ship rental is actually an older shipping system. It utilizes bridges that look like water and changes the party icon. So it's not possible to travel to/attack parties in actual water terrain. Some time ago I experiemented with actually converting land parties to sea parties, but it brought up a host of ramifications that I felt would take too much time to address.

Did you guys change the upper crew size limit? Or is it still 90?

No, it is 30-90
Yep, he has up to 200 men still no ship in the South Seaxe city.
Maybe he is trying to board the ship with too many men?

It does work as designed. We just didnt have a chance to code convoys yet. Hopefully we will be able to expand on that in the future. Same goes for "send" ships not actually sailing - it will at one point be added to the seafaring kit. Idibil and Motomataru will likely come up with something for you guys before i even start though

Player have option of hire a ship for expeditions of more than 90 men to ireland by example. He have go over sea only

Well, that's perfect! I was afraid to get my hopes up and wish for working ship convoys (seems awfully difficult to implement to me), but it seems we have a chance! (Bows to the ground) we're in your care.

Well, can we really ask for more? That's some awesome team, I say.

Hey Idibil,

i would love to start a new game, you guys already fixed some bugs after 1.39, any chance for a small bugfix release any time soon?

great work and many thanks.

Yes, with multiplayer addon, Adorno and me are testing it these days. Too, Adorno is adding a lot of scenes, you should ask him for some new

I have no clue what you mean by tit and real ship. Buying a ship allows you to either set sail with it, if your party size meets the crew requirements or manage the bought ship in a presentation.

Can you provide any screenshots or elaborate what exactly you did/happened?

While we're on the topic (and although I'm not the first to suggest this), I still think 25k is a bit steep for a ship. Hell, if you had 200 men you could just BUILD a ship. But I think that would break the game a bit so I wouldn't recommend it (save it for Viking expansion maybe? ). It's just that 25k is enough to buy, what, 20 acres of land? I recommend 15 or maybe 20k. 25 is too much in my opinion, but 10k would make it waaaay too easy to get a ship.

Duh, I have no trouble with ship, but few guys from other forum have. I don't know what they do wrong (I've send 'em Idibil's recomendations).  So, ship buying and using it works well. Thanks for the great mod!
Jarukr_Torfining, you always can add money for the ship using cheats

25k looks fine to me it means you have to put some thought into it.

My army is only 95 men and i own 250 acres of land but im only making about 5k profit from each pay out by the tim ive payed 2 weeks of wages because my army is about 22 spy's then about 70 medium and heavy infantry so they cost a lot to maintain so i had to go mass raiding and steadily store away gold to buy the ship.

But a problem ive found is i chased 35 scoty's into the sea with my whole army caught them and attacked no problem but i lost 17 men 12 heavy infantry and 5 spy's fighting them at sea where id have lost 0 on land.
Does being on sea suddenly stop heavy mail armor and thick heavy shields being effective couse after 4 of those battles almost my entire army was gone because elite heavy infantry fight about as effectively as a 10 year old with a wooden sword when there at sea.

So i fought a load of dena pirates put together a party of 65 or so of them in total plus 2 ship captains and my 22 spy's ( i reloaded ) and tried again and same result.
The scourge of the sea's in full plate armor from head to toe got spanked by old men with flimsy wooden shields and little to no armor.

It might just be me but something seems a little wrong if elite bowmen and elite heavy infantry cant beat scoty's without losing so many men its not worth the fight at all.
